Remember it well - one half time the partial results spelt the following long word, which a couple of mates & I adopted as our secret password ! "H00JooKo1L11Mo1N01P00Q" Try saying that in front of a mirror
Miss the old walk down Calvert Lane. Loved the banter Cod as I got older. Obvious the terrace culture back then. Big games in the Cup when the crowds would be massive and the faithful old diehards that went no matter what. Losing the North stand. Players like Neil,Knighton,Edwards,Pearson,Tony Norman,Billy Askew,Peter Skipper,Gareth Roberts,Rambo,Deano first time round and many more some of whom have sadly gone now. Old managers like Terry Neil,Don Robby,Mike Smith,Terrance ****ing Dolan. Fish OUT stickers and that game v Orient on a Sunday when we that Jonny Ayre goal lifted the roof of Fer ark. Remember my first night game with the old man when those huge 6 pylons lit up half of Boothferry road. The giants at half time, golden goal,Tiger cola, half time / Full time scores. Green sports mail...Days of Speed. “Eyes right, foreskins tight, arses to the front” Gone but never forgotten.
I think that number 3 is the Liverpool cup game. It can't be the United game because the floodlights are the six pylon ones and they came in the mid sixties. I think it is Liverpool rather than the Stoke 6th round match because of the remodelling of the back of the North Stand with the steps going up. I don't think they were there in the seventies but I could be wrong. I was always in the South Stand.
Number 3 is the Chelsea 6th round replay 1966. Quite amazing as it was quite a long time before kick off when that picture was taken.
You're right - must have been as the replay was mid-week. My eyes are so bad these days I couldn't make out the floodlight pylons
Not Fer Ark, but another similar perspective for Coventry. https://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=179275&start=100&sid=897a979e4a77f1d5dc3c362699609d68
I do miss the old **** hole, but it was our **** hole. miss the old south stand. miss walking through sponsors lounge, directors lounge during the silent pre season in the west stand watching simon cawkhill flapping around on matchdays. players coming up for a pint after the match. usually fettis deano and manny at the time.
My husband went from 1946 when the only completed stand was the West Stand with the North terrace being partially covered. In 1951 the North Stand was fully completed and soon after the East Stand erected with floodlights on the roof. Possible that it was taken in late 1951 but he would go for 1952.
Was the first game under floodlights against the then mighty Wolves and the first foreign team was Honved in the early fifties cos I was there as a youngster.
