It looks really great in the images, so if it turns out like that then I can't see how it will disappoint. Not gonna get into the debate about traditional stadiums vs modern. There are obvious arguments for and against both. For a modern stadium the new Everton one looks very nice and quite unique. And it's clearly happening, so ... It's just a bit small like
I went to Goodison a bit when I was younger. I was already an LFC fan but we used to get tickets through contacts with the hospitality before the match. They tried to 'convert' me on a couple of occasions with generous goody bags of merch but I was too far gone on the red side. Like you say, it's a historic and iconic stadium and it will be a shame when it goes, but that's unfortunately a modern necessity sometimes. Hopefully it works out a lot better than WHam's move which has been a disaster.
Yeah it’ll be a sad day when we leave, but it’s about creating a home for the club for the next 100+ years. They looked at refurbing the ground stand by stand, but the footprint just isn’t big enough. I’m just delighted that we’re going to end up with something that isn’t a cheap ‘standard’ identikit bowl. The original architects main brief was to try a retain some of the key elements of Goodison. So the stands are close to the pitch and they have done a lot of work on the acoustics, plus we’ve got the big single ‘wall’ of fans in the home end, the deigns look great, the location is fantastic and literally none of this would have been possible until Moshiri and his *mate* turned up. We dropped right on when he came into the club, and he’s putting his money where his mouth is. He’s just issued a new share option, that’ll see him pump another £200m in, to cover the recent losses and convert some of the directors loans he’s put in into equity. He’s made some **** footballing decisions but he’s the one who’s paid the price for them - literally. Many would have given up and cut their losses, but not this fella, he’s balls in.
The stupid ****er should have fought to have the League Cup there all the time, everyone loved it there and it would have brought in money every year.
Having lost in both, I have to say I prefer Wembley. Though that might be because we also won there once.
Very much this ... initially I was against moving; felt like a betrayal of our heritage ... even though we were literally going to move to the end of the street... but I very much doubt we would have reached the dizzy heights of where we are now in a stadium where some turnstiles were between terraced houses... don't think King Power would have marked us a a good potential investment. You have to move with the times. Our catering has always been reasonable and if you happen to go on the Chairman's birthday or a game close to Xmas you'll likely get a beer and and a bite for free. Planning to expand the ground by a further 10k is advanced, and that would not have been possible at Filbo. So for me and, I suspect, most Foxes old timers, we have our nostalgia but the move has made the impossible possible... we are now slugging it out with the big boys for a third time in 5 years ... incredibly unlikely that we'd be doing that if we'd have stayed at Filbo.
Yes I agree but the finance to build Wembley was reliant upon certain assurances of certain events being at Wembley for 25 years . I believe that should be reviewed now that there us NFL etc at Wembley . League Cup at Xardiff is a great idea
Millennium stadium is a fabulous arena in a great City ... I agree with you re League Cup ... would be great to make it an annual fixture there.
Daughter at Uni there ... my advice would be to go north of the centre, somewhere like Canton where you can park on the street and get the bus in ... it's walkable if you don't mind a 20 min walk ... lots of great eateries too
Good luck to Everton, the new stadium looks amazing and I'm sure it will a benefitial move all round. Good for the city, good for the local rivalry as well as increasing revenues for the club so nothing not to like really. So why as a Leeds fan do I not want or wish for, the same for us ? Main reason is , same as Goodison we have soul at Elland Road and you can't build that. You can however tweak and add to it as we've done by building new stands during the last century, some of which now need replacing or modifying again. If we're going to survive and thrive in the PL then my seat will be lost in the demolition and rebuild of the West Stand...I'll hate it and part of my enjoyment will be taken away forever. So when this develoment does finally happen and if we stay in the PL it surely will then I'll await the inevitable news that I'm being shunted backwards and upwards, further away from the action and no doubt being asked to pay more for the priviledge. Having sat in virtually the same seat since I was a boy, witnessing all the different owners and chairmen sitting in front of me come and go, you just know it will never be the same. Saying hello to Norman (sadly no longer with us) and Eddie Gray as they make their way up to the TV/Radio gantry, none of that will ever happen again. However being realistic it still has to happen, just don't expect me to be happy about it.
Imagine building a new stadium, then Covids like Nah, that's gonna be empty for 2 years. Hope that don't happen.
