The difference between Johnson and previous managers is he isn't scared to change formation during the game if it isn't working 343 and he changed it to break Fleetwood down. Brilliant by the manager
He’s proper growing into the role now ain’t he. Steady but average start, but he’s really starting to get a feel for it now. Growing on me every day.
Think it was always going to take a little time to impart his ideas. I can only see us getting stronger
It the mid game switches that impact the game, maybe 3-4 out of last 5-6 he’s made a tactical and it’s opened it up. He’s a good gaffer, clearly, and he’s looking more and more a great fit.
We were in this post (or another), mulling the formation of the team was the topic...A O'Brien of course scored a good goal tonight. For me it seems if we play 3 at the back (ie if 09 is one of the 3), LJ wants to have 2 wing backs and two solid CMs, with Mcgeady floating and 2 strikers. When toward the end of the game, we went to 4 at the back, we then had two wingers and Wyke alone upfront. The players adapted to it, or another way of looking at it we adapt the formation to bring out the best of the players on the pitch.
Who knew that we had adaptable, capable players eh? Every player looks better under him, it’s insane the difference. We never look deflated, that was the overriding mode with Parky. If we didn’t get a flyer we were flat as a fart. You always feel something can happen now. That Shrewsbury result is infuriating we’d be flying with that, but the focus since has been outstanding.
He's been excellent in many areas. I can't see a time when we're having a bad run and he stops trying to win games, the bad run bit yeah but I don't think he'll ever give up he'll just try something different.
In his post match interview he said he was going to change it after 20mins. Night and day from Parky. Long may it continue
In terms of attitude, he's the polar opposite of every manager since big Sam. Low and behold, he was the last manager to improve a player before Johnson too. It was always going to take a bit of time for the players to adjust from playing parky's way to how Johnson has us playing, but you see the lads out there really are enjoying playing this way, and not just because we are doing well.
This is why I'm glad that we went for Johnson and not someone like Pearson. Johnson isn't of the old school. That makes him much better suited to KLD and the new system that he's bringing in. Some people seem to think that getting shouty and being unpleasant is the key to good football management. We need to move away from that kind of thinking. The new regime is dragging us into the modern world. We've needed that for a long time. Johnson might not be around forever but we can expect future managers to be of a similar ilk.
A few weeks ago i said that a doubt had crept in about him. Expectable i suppose after all thats gone by. Soon passed and I've really warmed to him now. Even think that he's probably a better choice than Pearson and SKP
Considering a player becomes a world beater when injured at our place I think ev na this is incorrect
In my opinion, and I humbly say I have been known to be wrong,LJ's actions and words are beginning to sound to me like they're coming from a man whose assuredness in the role he has is growing week by week, probably stemming from the confidence he's being given from his employers that he's part of a longer term project rather than a member of the "fix-it-quick or you're out" club.
this is really important, KLD has chosen his manager, we now need to give him the time, money and support to carry out his remit. The new additions to the staff look to be all from the same mould as LJ, the acid test will be when we have fans back, I really hope we have the patience to let him create the style of play we establish throughout all of our age-group squads, our own identity if you like. Promotion this season would be a great bonus, but even if we fall short this time, we need to stick at it and go again.
Spot on mate. If LJ has the credentials....and it's looking more and more as though he has....we need to give him the time to realise the potential. From the interview,I got the sense that KLD has bought into that. Our recent history is living proof that quick fix manager turnover doesn't work, and,as you say,an identity throughout the different player age groups,is what's required.Playing the Sunderland way will be the mantra. I've banged on about this before, but that is what made the Shankly inspired,Paisley era at Liverpool so special. The whole club played the same way, with the same ethic. Every player wanted to play there, and no-one wanted to leave..( well, apart from Gobby Kev! ) That must be our aspiration.
