So often poor teams seem to lift their game against us. One reason is probably because we're top of the league and everyone wants the scalp. Another, perhaps, is that our style of play allows the other team to play. We're not a team who try to stifle games, so it's easier to look good against us.
We'll take the points! Reading behind in the only other game we have half an interest in tonight. 19 points clear of the play-off chasers.
The announcer said "the reason Cantwell's been quiet is he's been kicked three or four times." Still, Todd was the hardest working player in the game.
It’s good also that just for Swansea to stay in touch with us, they need to win every single match. No slip ups.
The stat is a little old, but 87 points was the average for second place from 1995-2018. That's less than 7 wins from our remaining 14 games. 20 points is: 7 wins, 7 losses (+1 points) 6 wins, 2 draws, 6 losses 5 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses We could conceivably manage it with 3 wins, 11 draws.
It is worth noting that after our defeat to Swansea, Brentford had a better goal difference than us of 15, (27 t0 our 12). Now it is just 2.
I had to laugh at this from the Guardian. The quotation is so Chris Hughton. Nottingham Forest eased their relegation fears with a scrappy 1-0 win at Rotherham. Ryan Yates’ second-half winner moves Forest 10 points clear of the Millers, who currently occupy the third relegation spot. “Sometimes these kind of wins can be the most pleasing ones,” said the Forest manager, Chris Hughton.
interesting reading the brentford and watford forums after last nights result. The tone seems to have shifted a bit from bravado about how we can be caught by them to saying we are 'lucky' and joking about our future relegation back tot the championship. I suppose from their point of view us failing to score in 4 games must have looked like the start of a real slide, and our top striker scoring 6 in the next four rather suggests we aren't fading in the way hoped.
When you remember that this was our third game in 6 days, all against teams fighting for survival, it's perhaps not surprising that we were a bit lackluster. In all 3 games if we'd been more clinical in front of goal the scorlines would have been pretty impressive. I think the important thing is to focus on the 9 points we got from these game rather than the patchy performances. We will have another tough game against Wycombe on Sunday in 5 days time.
I was waiting for him to call Rotherham a big club and say it's a tough place to go. That they had to be at their best to get any kind of result.... Not bitter...
