Your insistence on being negative about our government despite their continued cost-effective and world-beating performance disgusts me. Sir Hat Mancock is a superhero among men. Piss off to China if you don’t like it.

    Liked by the usual suspects.

    Point spectacularly missed as usual.
I'm not blindly supporting the government and I've been as critical as most about them.
I can't stand Hancock and most politicians.
My point is that some people simply refuse to be optimistic about our way out of this and choose to criticise and doubt every single step taken, steps, some of which have been proved to be correct.

    I await your immature response.

Setting aside any political allegiances this government's mishandling, disingenuous messaging, corrupt contracts and the odd outright deception have contributed if not caused thousands of deaths.

That said the Vaccination progress is great and the gaps between the stages of the roadmap seem sensible. I wish I trusted them to ease back on the dates if things start going south again but I don't, or at least they would leave it too late. I believe the biggest threat to vaccine efficacy is new strains/mutations so the focus away from infection rate I think is a worry and the rate is still very high.

Whether we are optimistic or pessimistic makes little difference, if they get this right everyone is happy. I don't trust this government, they have given little to justify anyone's trust frankly but I hope that proves irrelevant and this really is the way out of this.

Scotland's roadmap out of lockdown unveiled
please log in to view this image

The reopening of Scotland's economy - including shops, bars, restaurants, gyms and hairdressers - is expected to start in the last week of April, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

She said there would be a "progressive easing" of restrictions before then, with four people from two households allowed to meet outdoors from 15 March.

All primary and more secondary school pupils could return from that date.

It is hoped to lift the stay at home restriction on 5 April.

Ms Sturgeon said the Scottish government's strategic framework was "deliberately cautious" at this stage.

Ms Sturgeon said the aim in Scotland was to move fully back to a levels system of restrictions from the last week in April.

"At that stage, we hope that all parts of the country currently in level four will be able to move out of level four and back initially to level three - possibly with some revision to the content of the levels."

The aim is for a "progressive easing" of the level four restrictions at three-week intervals.

Scotland's youngest children and some senior pupils returned to the classroom on Monday, and Ms Sturgeon said schools were the "immediate priority".

It is hoped that the next phase will see the remaining primary school pupils and more senior pupils back in the classroom "for at least part of their learning" from 15 March.

The rules on outdoor mixing would also be relaxed on that date, with up to four people from two households allowed to meet, and non-contact sports for under-18s resuming.

The final phase of the return to school would take place on 5 April, when it is hoped to lift the stay at home restrictions.

I also choose to be optimistic mate but I dont buy all this 'the government have made mistakes' bullshit. Lying about a protective ring around care homes, wasnt a mistake. It was a lie and incompetence. Paying your old neighbour 30 million quid of tax payers money, wasnt a mistake, it's basically corruption. Why couldnt you or me tender for such a contract? Not closing the borders, yes granted, that was a mistake. Not doing it again was incompetence! Releasing pensioners covid positive back into care homes then lying about it. Doesnt matter whether they were tory, labour or lib dems for **** sake. It happened. We have a great vaccine roll out happening right now, I dont give a **** whether it's a Tory, labour or lib dems govt doing it. I'm optimistic that it will be a success. I want it to be. I'm also outraged that billions worth of pounds has been spaffed up against a wall for friends and businesses of politicians. When we moan about the state of the economy, just think how many jobs that could have saved, irrelevant of which party oversaw it.

That was just a rant Col and not aimed at you in particular pal. I just get so wound up when I see blatant corrupt acts happening under our noses and nobody bats a ****ing eyelid. I truly dont care what political persuasion people are but to turn a blind eye to an old mate what's apping our health secretary for 30m of tax payers money is a ****ing scandal. I only wish I had claimed the last self employment grant now! Will be bloody claiming the fourth one that's for sure!

    why was 1976 so deadly
    was it all heatwave related

    Cuthbert Collingwood

    @SurfaceSkimmer

A bad year for deaths, yes.
But hardly a record breaker and not one that required lockdowns (source ONS).

I think you know how much I despise this government over their miss handling of the pandemic....

But the roll out of the vaccine has been truly wonderful and near miraculous. I put this down to letting the NHS do it and not being let out to tender and their mates...

But I salute the government for learning and doing that.

I am optimistic that we are on the way out at last.

I do hope and pray that "the chickens do come home to roost", and the ineptitude and corruption and the 120,000 mostly unnecessary deaths, are brought to the front and the people involved made to answer...

But I am currently very optimistic ..just please don't cock it up now...please

Hi Beth, what are your thoughts on the Roadmap? I like that there is breathing space between the stages but worry that opening schools with infection rates still so high is a big risk.

Bit of a logic fail here surely from this no doubt highly credible Twitter account as without lockdowns, 2020 would be miles out in front.

That's my main concern aswell Frome. It was from the beginning to be honest and I questioned the school decision many times. I dont have the answers but then again I'm not paid to.
