Not sure why the ‘roadmap’ has to be “irreversible”. Kind of contradicts the whole “data not dates”, “following the science” mantras. Why back yourself into that corner?

They’ve got plenty of caveats about transmission rates, pressure on hospitals, new variants etc which makes ‘irreversible’ a strangely relative concept in this context. Meanwhile us plebs are so used to U turns that we won’t notice or be surprised, and certainly won’t exact punishment, if it comes to that, and there is a chance that Desmond Swayne and his ilk will shut up for a bit.

Can't most kids get basic schooling from the nett in the UK for a while, especially if they have a bit of help from parents, grandparents, or whoever looks after them at home? I know of some adult family who have been well knackered doing just this for periods when schools closed, but classes went on the nett.

With respect you are obviously someone who hasn’t got kids of school age....especially those with SEN.
My 2 boys were doing really well, adjusting to a new school and settling in....even catching up and improving their grades.
Sadly they’ve taken a step back in the last few months.

So the lifting of restrictions will allow Euro2020 to go ahead.

(oh and there will be spectators at the championship playoffs...obviously not of any interest to us though)

Annoyingly maximum 10,000 per event, so only around 5,000 rangers fans allowed.

I think I read somewhere (will try and remember where) that they are trying to follow the science by unlocking very slowly, but if that fails - especially if it fails after we've all had the vaccine - they've accepted we can't go back into permanent lockdown. So it's following the science as we unlock, and then accepting that this might end up as a seasonal condition which becomes norm.

I think the data coming out is very good. I have seen the word 'Spectacular' used today. After the first jab people needing hospital or sadly dying from Covid has fallen drastically.... So I think this time they maybe okay.

I think the gradual lifting of lockdown announced today is about right.
It's much slower than those in hospitality and tourism would like, but sounds like the way to go to me.
Tory backbenchers moaning that it's not fast enough reassures me that they've got it broadly right.

So in the first few days after returning to school teenagers will be tested for the virus 3 times at school and once at home, and then twice a week at home, and promise to report the results accurately. None of the tests will be administered by a healthcare professional, or analysed at a professional lab.

I think it’s good to open up the schools, but why bother with this pointless ****?

Anything to say about all the positive news we're currently getting?

Remind me of the positive news, do you mean the Scottish study on the vaccines? Yep good, and at least Whitty concluded his perky walk through of the ‘data’ that everyone needs a second dose.

    Everything else is hyper normal.

Must be different up here. My nieces are both in classes of 30, nephews the same. One whole school year was off last time they were open as the cases were in stupid numbers.

Suppose its horses for courses mate. My lad has absolutely excelled since being taken out of school. We have private tutors and his learning has been outstanding.

Nobody wants the government to fail on this, as that would mean more death. It's stupid of anyone to even suggest that. What people are concerned about, and rightly so, is that we have heard the bluster of dates etc before. We have repeated past mistakes and we have wasted billions on private, pathetic companies. We now have the vaccines which will hopefully be the game changer. I wouldnt think too much on Johnsons actual words as we all know how he changes those with the weather. Let's just hope this plan works and life can get back to some form of normality.
