GRIS DE PRON 16/1 Southwell 4:20 Form figures read more like an advert for rice krispies but that's only half the story. He is back in the yard where he showed his best form and is running here off a mark 7lbs lower than his winning handicap rating. This yard ran him in a chase on his return but he looked in need of the run. Over hurdles now and very interesting to see Paddy Brennan get the call. Enough negatives as well but this is a poor race even by Southwell standards and at the price I think he merits a few quid each way. All the best Reebs, will be thinking of you mate.
Sad to hear of the death of Sandy Barclay. A very fine jockey who could have ruled the '70s/'80s if he'd have had the temperament. A flawed genius, I'll never forget his riding of Royal Palace in 1968: absolutely brilliant.
Southwell 1.15 Midnight Folie Very consistent and among the first 2 in every run when trained by Tim Vaughan in 2019. Ben Jones knows the horse well (has won on him more than one time) and takes off valuable 3 lb). Now back in training at the Tim Vaughan yard. Yard can ready one after a long break and had a winner at Fontwell on friday.
Southwell 1.45 Quartz Du Rheu Useful and consistent hurdler for Willie Mullins. Interesting today on career low mark. Its only the 3rd run for the O'Neill yard and the horse has hinted some promise last time out (excuses for that race when losing a shoe). Wouldn't be surprised if Quartz Du Rheu is ready to strike today. Yard has been amongst the winners recently.
Southwell 2.20 Lord Accord Trainer Neil Mullholland holds this horse in some regard (entered in the BALLYMORE NOVICES' HURDLE at Cheltenham) "He is a nice horse who won his bumper at Fontwell first time out and then won his maiden hurdle there too. He unseated third time out but it was on ground that wouldn't have been in his favour but we were prepared to take the chance as it looked a winnable race. We are freshening him up at the moment and getting ready for the nicer races in the spring."
