Why wasn't he taken off with 15 or so minutes to go to give him a rest for Tueday? He was blowing a bit and looked knackered - it would also have given Watters a run out when the game was virtually won.

Unless the pitch is covered in some way overnight and tomorrow, there could be a problem with a frozen pitch anyway - they haven't got under soil heating.

Since MM has arrived we've scored 12 goals in 6 games. 7 different scorers. Difficult to defend against that. Encouraging stuff. What a turnaround. That and the only player MM signed hasnt kicked a ball for us yet. A couple wobbles to come no doubt, but looking at the right end of the table.
So a win tomorrow against Preston won't move us up the table at all, but a loss could drop us down 4 places. Couldn't have imagined this a few weeks back. It's going to be so difficult to maintain let alone improve on - or is it? Keep punching and let the others make the mistakes.
It’s another tough one tomorrow- we’re due a win over them at our place. I’m sure it won’t be lost on MM how effective they’ve been on the road so suspect he’s been poring over the videos of their away set up.
Just watched the preston highlights on Quest. A lot of positives to take, with improvements in a number of areas resulting in goals. The set piece threat is still there, but pressure in midfield and incisive passing with pace is evident. Cool finishing, defending high up the pitch with pressure leading to goals. Two goals from pressure in the final third, one from pressure in midfield. And top of the list for me, bodies in the box. Before MM arrived, Pack wouldnt have scored as he'd have been back on the half way line. 3 or 4 bodies in the box after winning the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box. Worth special mention, how cool was Harris' finish? A sign of confidence. And Phillips must have the record for the shortest time between two penalty saves. Happy days.
Watched the whole game live on CCTV - well worth the tenner. The difference between the side under Harris and now under McCarthy is quite breathtaking. There's an air of confidence at the back, and moving Wilson and Murphy in particular inside rather than hugging the touchline is a real threat to the opposition. Perry and Benno are providing the width allowing Pack and Vaulks to patrol midfield very effectively. Keiffer is Keifer and will always put himself in the firing line, but is now supported with pace by Wilson and Murph alongside him rather than 30 yards away on the touchline. McCarthy has done what Harris couldn't - play a system that suited the players he's got rather than try to fit the players into a system that clearly didn't.
Its a skill that only some managers have. Some managers have a game plan and need to recruit to that plan. Nothing wrong with that if you have time. Money helps as well. (Pep, Jose, early days, but plug could fit that category) Some get an extra 10% out of motivating what they've got to keep doing what they're doing. Some just get the organisation right and do the basics well. (colin?) Some get a vision but are incapable of delivering that (Trollope, Harris?) Others are able to look at what is available and create the environment for them to perform. Q managers like MM. Glad Mark Harris is getting some game time. MM not falling into the rut of only playing experienced players. Managers that vary the tactics and evolve their style are the gems. Not sure MM fits that category but we will see. At the moment, I can't see beyond giving him a longer term contract though.
He’s been open and honest with his expectations, hasn’t he? I was 50/50 with his appointment, seemingly one step forward and two back but the necessity of getting the team out of the rot and the best out of the players won me over. He’s clearly a talented manager at this level; and if we don’t have him next season (assuming we’re in this league) then bet your bottom dollar some other club will.
Mick's a man manager not a flipchart freak measureing the length of the grass before deciding his side. Harris was neither to be fair, but fell between two stools because of his lack of experience and vision. It's an overused expression but I also believe he'd "lost the dressing room" with the confidence sucked out his players by his frequent blame game post match interviews. Got a feeling that if (heaven forbid!) we start losing a few games, Mick would be the first to hold his hand up and admit his own mistakes and not publicly blame players.
Is that why he was always in the sh*t? I think MM is a man of principle and in the face of defeat, we'll get an honest appraisal.
A bit like a number of good managers they have trusted capable back room staff, like Colin and his two coaches. MM puts great store in TC and talks him up. Each have their own jobs and dovetail. Takes the pressure off and shares the burden. We may have found a duo to get the best out of Murphy. If he keeps on like he is doing, he may be worth half what we paid for him.
I’d take 2 draws this week to keep us there or thereabouts and prevent either opponent gaining ground on us.
