Never really understood why people don't rate Gooch. Yeah he has ups and downs, more of the former, but he's a two footed goal scoring bull terrier of a player. He's a warrior with Borini levels of confidence.

Unless we're careful we'll have another Watmore to admire from a distance.

Very true he's going to go on to have a great career. Whether that's in the championship or the premier league I don't know but it won't be league one. Hopefully the new regime will be able to get deals sorted out for players who deserve it.

I’ve never understood the dislike for him either. He could have gone when we were in the championship or every year that we’ve been in this tinpot league. He didn’t. On the odd occasion I’ve seen him play he gives his all. Is he a good or a bad player? Wouldn’t know. I do think he isn’t a mercenary though and enjoys playing for the club.

I think a lot of the knackers have judged him on the season where he had a lot of personal family issues. I thinks he's a great asset to the team.

I reckon every other side in the division would love to have him if he was available

He's played as a wingback a few times now and had a few very good games mixed in with them, far more very good than anything else.
When he's come on recently after being out he may not have had the best of games at times but against the likes of Gillingham when they were bullying us all over he came on and they couldn't do the same to him. Yes he didn't score or play that killer ball but he made sure they knew they couldn't do to him what they were managing to do to Diamond.
He scores and assists more than enough in this league and even when he plays 'badly' he never hides and he gets stuck in.

No idea why he has been getting stick. Just getting over Covid. Great lad, always makes stuff happen. Class work rate.

The problem I have with Gooch is that he probably isn't a winger. He can and does score the occasional great goal , like yesterday.

Yesterday he started out as a winger, then went to wingback? He has even played full back.

So yes he does have a good game or two and unlike say Scowen he knows where the goal is... but he could not buzz around like Scowen linking play up. I also think Diamond and Jones are better wingers .

So Gooch puts me in a bit of a quandary..

I really like Gooch and think he’s a great player. My issues with him are when he over complicates and tries to be a different player than he needs to be.

I actually prefer him at wing back where he’s able to drive forward from further back. When he’s further forward he sometimes twists and turns his way down blind alleys, and that’s not his game.

Got pace, skill and energy. Can be one of the best in this league IMO. Think he’s at the point of his career where he needs to be consistent especially in this league. Hoping today was him getting back to speed after injuries/covid. If him, McGeady and Jones bring their best and wyke keeps scoring, we’re going to be a massive threat

We should be breaking the bank to get him committed to the club, always gives 100% he doesn’t always beat a man but it’s not for lack of effort, he is a very skilful, tricky winger and like O’Nien shows he can be very adaptive by moving to other positions for the good and benefit of the team.

    I’ve always rated Gooch.

When he stays for and finds a rhythm he’s very good. Aye he wastes a lot of good positions but he also puts in a lot of dangerous balls and has an eye for goal.

He’s one of those I’d keep if we went up. He’s capable.

Even McGeady is showing signs that there's real coaching at the club now, he's using his trickery to beat someone and get a cross in quickly. If Gooch can be coached into seeing the bigger picture he'll be a real asset imo.

Whatever the case he's great to have in the squad even if that means a place on the bench ...

... we have options for the first time in ages.

How good has Geads been mate? Yeah he’s slow, but he’s tending to use the ball really well, and contrary to Parkinson painting him out as a wrong ‘un, he’s really coming over as a bit of a leader, something we have never seen from him even when he was the star before the issues.

The club seem to be getting everything moving forwards right now and it’s fantastic to see, this really is the start of a long and winding road. There will be setbacks and failures but you just get the impression they will be hoovered up.

I’d be getting Geads another year right now and have an eye on him coaching the midfield and forward lads on technique etc. The way he controls the ball even now is just so natural it’s ridiculous.

To think many, including myself, thought he was done and gone.

I've always rated him, there's definitely a player in there. He just needs to find a position, be consistent, and confident. He has the ability to player at a higher level.

As has been said above, he needs to look up. He does often go full pelt to byline then just smash balls across, when he’s a bit more measured his crossing is very dangerous.

I’d imagine the current staff can get him that extra bit to his game and make him a really solid all round player.

As I mean ruined, eye for goal as well, very capable finisher.

I’ve always rated Gooch at this level because he will score goals, but he showed yesterday what he is capable of if he’s on it, but at the same time he needs to now go on a run with them team and do it consistently
