To me the game management was all over the place in the second half. It was clear that Doncaster were out playing us even by the 55th minute, so we needed to dig in. Its unfortunate that Docherty had to go off through injury, but I don't understand why we didn't push Honeyman back, to help Alfie Jones' legs, and bring on Crowley then. Slater was non-existent and I'm still not entirely sure what sort of midfielder he is. Equally, Magennis AND Wilks going off, and Whyte coming on, a player coming back from an injury, was a poor decision to make knowing that we were struggling to contain Donny and we only had a one goal lead. We made ourselves less physical in a game where we needed to dig in further. Injuries didn't help but we put ourselves in a bad position in the first place. We need to be better at holding onto leads if we want to go up. When playing well our first XI is excellent but too often we don't know how to affect a game if its not.
it was a really open game, I never felt comfortable even at 3 1 up. We were dire second half. Strangely I thought he did change things, Emmanuel for Wilks and Whyte was playing deep when he came on. Their commentator was saying it would play into their hands and he was right.
Which is fine, but bringing off Magennis too and sticking to the same system left us really light beyond Alfie Jones. If we needed to sub off both in my eyes we should have considered a change of system.
Golden opportunity bad mistake from their keeper, potter terrible miss which would have won us three points. From that moment on Doncaster played better and quicker than us. Decent point but not when you are 2 goals up.
Their manager made the required change at half time - 3 at the back and swamp midfield. Bostock controlled the game with his craft from then on and were always dangerous down the right. Doc and Honeyman going off should have required McCann to change his system to counter this but did he? Again a Burke mistake cost us.
Obviously huge frustration again especially when we went 3-1 up. Top scores but still defensively frail under pressure probably best sums us up. Oh...and the managers still ****e apparently.
Agreed. He should have run them ragged in the second half. He should have stood on the halftime line and awaited us booting it out.
Someone needs to tell Wilks to give the short easy obvious ball instead of tying his legs in knots when surrounded Can we also encourage KLP and Wilks to look sideward too KLP had several chances to play an easy inside pass but chose to turn round and play it back - I can do that !
