So are you saying Huggins and Cresswell aren’t ready? And, if he raves so much about Gelhardt why not try him?
I’m not saying they’re not ready, I haven’t seen enough of them to make that call. With Geldhardt I think Bielsa was politely saying or insinuating he is a great finisher but maybe doesn’t do the other stuff Bamford does? Don’t get me wrong, I’d give him a go personally but would we miss what Bamford “does”. Take Phillips for example, every week someone knocks him, match ratings go up and he scores 6 or 7 if lucky yet every time he is missing we struggle. Raphinha does the flash stuff, he is the Quarter Back that gets everything good magnified and anything negative overlooked. Raphinha actually gave the ball away several times yesterday. If that was Phillips there’d be plenty pointing it out and ignoring his good stuff. We miss Phillips badly despite what a few think about his performances, I just wonder if we’d only miss Bamford when he wasn’t there. If Cooper, Roberts and Costa had put their great chances away we’d have won 4-1 or 5-1 and that’s not counting dodgy VAR. Cooper defended solidly enough but someone scored him 8 despite the fact he should have won us the game. Just how we all see it differently
I think the point I’m making is if they are not ready to replace anyone during a game then they shouldn’t be on the subs bench. We needed a goal so why not try him for Roberts for 10-15 minutes for example. Most on here slate Roberts so if none of the U23s can oust him, perhaps they’re not as good yet as we think they are.
Being part of the match day squad is valuable experience. Maybe the intention is to bring him on if we’re say 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go (give Bamford a breather, saving him for the next game)
Regarding the Gelhardt comments he has created many chances for a number if players especially when he played at No10. He won at least 5 penalties which Greenwood Roberts and himself to score from. Hes also won a lot of free kicks that Greenwood or himself have scored from and only last week he created 2 goals in the win. As for are they good enough, well I would play Huggins way ahead of Alioski on the left wing or LB, simple really because he is faster, more skilful and very direct. He is hard to stop without bringing him down. Cresswell is for the future and behind Cooper Struijk Koch and Llorente, so no hurry. Drameh is the 2nd best RWB at the club without doubt so deserves to replace Ayling if hes out. Gelhardt and Greenwood I would play as sub to Bamford before Roberts and they both tackle all the way back to our box, they chase everything and do what Bamford does, maybe not as good as Bamford but better than Bamford for taking chances. Yes big statement but we dont know how either would do in the real world head wise until we see it. I would also play Greenwood and Gelhardt at 10 or 8 before Roberts and Pablo and we havent discussed Summerville yet who is looking better than Costa right now, pace, power, fight, crossing, dribbles and scores goals too. Think he has 5 so far along with 7 each for Gelhardt and Greenwood. So those 4 we spent money on in the Summer and Huggins are all worth having a look at. We know at least 3 top players will come in at the end of the season maybe 5 but having a look in a real top flight game when we get chance when we are safe makes sense. It can save us a bomb. It will answer a lot of questions too on what to do with them
Morning all. Wolves had the run of the ball, but we did not deserve to be beaten. How we achieved this when the "experts" on this board think half the Leeds team were sub standard I don't know.
Leeds Utd have a fairly young side based upon average age, but Wolves last night played 3 teenagers. Arsenal regularly play 2 teenagers, Spurs play at least one teenager, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and more all use teenagers. Very rare for us to though, but very rare for us to change a team because of Bielsas way of doing it. Its not unusual for a teenager to play in the Premier League, so I ghink at some stage we need to blood some of ours
must be cheapo ones, when he was being mobbed after fluking the winner, he was grimacing all over....perhaps he needs a back brace as well just to complete the set
3-0 up or 3-0 down (probably the former as at 3-0 down bielsa will still be thinking we could score 4) that’s how they all get introduced -10 minutes where it doesn’t matter... unless injuries intervene
Re Raphinha, he gets caught in possession regularly every game. But like pablo’s mediocre pass stats it’s because he’s trying stuff... if you want to enjoy the brilliance you have to accept it doesn’t always come off. Where Raphinha needs to improve is getting caught out trying stuff where there’s no need (ie no real benefit even if it comes off) he did that a few times yesterday. In fact he was pretty sh*t in general play yesterday... with was a direct contrast with his exceptional dead ball delivery.
I can add a few series to that, the almighty Johnson's from NZ, steptoe and son, Hancock's half hour, porridge. Future man. If anyone wants any let me know
I'd like to see Summerville on the bench. He is electric and could cause huge problems with his pace with 10 or 15 minutes to go.
I thought he was sloppy yesterday and on his arse more in the first half, I also thought he was getting frustrated and at one stage Cody Drameh ripped him a new arse. Picked up with the wind behind in the second half and the YEP and Leeds live had him marked as 9 out of ten.
Aye but the pace on him could panic the opposition and they push someone over to help cover him leaving gaps elsewhere. Aaron Lennon made a career out of being fast. Theo Walcott to a certain extent.
It might be for them but I don’t see how it helps having substitutes that the coach doesn’t fully trust to use. That said, I thought Geldhardt had played in the championship with Wigan.
