I still dont get this Coyle playing thing. Recently, December I think, the HDM did a player rating season so far just after the Portsmouth game maybe... Coyle scored 8 or such, Emmanuel scored 9.5 the highest of any player and was described as the seasons star man. His completed pass ratio was and again I stand to be corrected around 84% the highest in the team In steps Coyle, to add some defensive rigidity which has been sadly lacking of late and since him starting and awarded the captaincy!! if the two of them were overlapped I know who'd bet on getting back and effecting a clearance. I also know which one is 100& better getting forward..Last night, we needed no defensive rigidity and yet Josh was still sat on his arse. All this bowlocks about rotating the team and tiredness does not seem to come into play and I suspect Josh Emmanuel's fitness levels outstrip many of his colleagues...other than Doc. As it is, we had what looked like a 7 figure player, with no chance of playing not even in a piss arse pizza cup... Thoughts...? as always, prepared to be shot down.
Agree. It's odd. Nothing against Coyle. He's a decent player, but Emmanuel is better imo. I could understand resting him for the odd game (at one stage he looked like he maybe needed it), or maybe replacing him now and then with Coyle after an hour, but the way he's seemingly dropped out of favor seems strange. He's one hell of a prospect, I just hope he isn't getting pissed off.
I tweeted Burnsy about this asking if it could possibly be another KLP type performance/contract thingy, whereby if Emmanuel starts a certain number of games he gets a pay rise, and perhaps he's about to trigger that. He promised to ask about it -- but I guess after a 5-0 victory in which Coyle played well and attacked well, it probably wasn't the right time. But that is my suspicion - the hand of Ehab at play.
Highly unlikely that a new signing would have a significant pay increase triggered by starting only his 21st game for us.
I suspect from the onset once we paid £350k for Coyle, it was always planned that Coyle would be first choice, and that Emmanuel would be a solid back up for whom we would not have to pay any fee. Not that I'm saying Terry is stubborn.........
I think they're both good full-backs, you pays your money and takes your choice - Emmanuel offers a bit more up the pitch, I think Coyle is a slightly better defender; it doesn't really matter which one GM picks though, he can't win and he'll be ****ed either way.
They’re both solid at this level, they both have strengths and weaknesses. I think given the run in you’ll see rotation, Emmanuel strikes me as more of an athlete and doesn’t seem to tire as easily in games.
For balance Coyle was acknowledged as one of the best RBs in League One last season. https://eflanalysis.com/analysis/fi...n-league-one-2019-20-data-analysis-statistics
Well I think this is exactly what has happened as he has played 20 games this season when he was expected to be back up to Coyle and only start a handful of games. Is it a coincidence its a nice round number and not 23 ?
He's played 26, he's started in 23 of them, you have to make it league starts only to get to your nice round number. Not buying it.
As if the club would do something like that? Really? And didn't KLP already have a contract , including an extra year option? It's a coincidence that it's a round 20 (and yes, of course it would be starts in league games) and it would explain the otherwise unexplainable. As already mentioned, when he was brought in he wasn't expected to be first choice. Released by Ipswich, then released soon after by Bolton. So maybe he was quite happy to join a cub like us on those terms. It would not in the least bit surprise me if that was the explanation.
Yeah, I mentioned this idea of Coyle being played because McCann signed him as first choice and wants him in his 'ideal' XI. Didn't think it was a certainty, but it is a curious idea that would make sense considering the state of the club in general.
Could it be that McCann thinks that Coyle is the better player for the way he wants the team to play at the moment? Whether I agree with him isn't that relevant, but I don't think it is more complicated than that to be honest.
Coyle was 100% signed to be No1 left back, Emmanuel surprised absolutely everyone with how well he did when given the chance early on when coyle was out...but grant wanted coyle in the team asap and coyle also wasn't happy not being no1
I have a preference for Emmanuel, but I'm not as down on Coyle as some seem to be. Overall it's a nice problem to have, and it's not the most important selection issue as it doesn't affect others positionally (compared to, say, what you do with Crowley).
