I know it wasn't aimed at me, but as you did respond to my other post .... ... I enjoyed it at times, I was frustrated as hell at times. Overall, a 5-0 win (or pretty much any win) leaves me 'happy'. But it still wasn't a brilliant performance from us. It just wasn't! Re. Donny's pitch. That could be good for us.
I’m with you. On occasions, when we’ve been winning this season I’ve been unimpressed with some of the performances. It always worried me that that would reveal an underlying inability to get promotion, the Portsmouth and Accrington performances suggested that we’d really turned a corner but then a slump came. Hopefully last night has turned it on it’s head. Everyone supports differently and this works for me it keeps me grounded.
I very much doubt anyone that has followed City for any length of time would suffer from blind optimism, no matter how posts on here are worded.
There's a difference between directly addressing players through social media and giving opinions on a forum. If I messaged KLP and said he was a bag of **** in the last game (he wasn't, just an example), I could see how that might have an impact because I'd addressed him personally. A throwaway comment on a football forum, I highly doubt it. I wouldn't be bothered if I stumbled onto a page that was dedicated to me and the ****ness of my teaching at all, because I could guarantee most, if not all, don't work in education, so their opinions just fall by the wayside. If it was another Year 2 teacher telling me that the lesson I had taught wasn't very good, I'd listen and take on the feedback because I know their opinion is based on valid and relevant experience. But if it was just some **** like me saying that I could have put Greaves' headed chance in, I don't think he's going to take it personally, you know?
I agree. Also, I’m not criticising anyone for supporting however blindly or realistically or even negatively they want, that’s up to them. I admit I get puzzled sometimes by some of the more positive posts when we go on a bad run of form, even if winning. But it really is nothing to do with me. But at the same time, I don’t believe it can hurt to look at performances and maybe ask what could be better.
Exactly. Some people are just happy that they won and if that's enough for them, great. I prefer grounded, even if that means the reality is grim. I'd rather face it head on; as the old adage goes, the first step to solving any problem is recognising there is one. We played well last night, we've played better and got less, but it was a solid enough performance and it was an impressive way to get the monkey of an 8-0 dicking off our backs.
That's interesting, I do that a lot too. I must wind up the poor souls who sit next to me at the KCOM, I wind myself up with it sometimes too. That said, I see things now in a more positive way compared to some. And I do that because I look at what is happening now, and ignore what happened months ago with a different squad, against different opposition, in a different league. There are a fair few on here, not necessary Steven Toast, whose view of our club and our manager is still coloured by what happened in June. I hope destroying Wigan will play a part in turning that around for some - though given what has been posted since the match ended, I'm not confident. For some, avoiding having a previous statement being proved wrong weeks or months later, is more important than seeing and accepting what is right in front of them. It's bizarre. A fair few do that with the Allams too, incidentally, I try not to be one of those. Trouble is, Ehab Allam rarely let's you down if you are someone who think he is an idiot.
You've gone a bit deep there. A football forum is social media. The club have someone scrutinising these sites so they are concerned and some stuff that appears on this forum about players, the coaches and the owners is uncalled for and way over the top. I remember bumping into one City player who had just broke into the first team, a long time ago, young local lad, and I met him on the bus home, that's how long ago it was. He was travelling home from training on the bus. After some discussion, and he was very cautious about speaking to me at all, the poor lad burst into tears. In those days it was letters to the local newspaper, local phone in programmes and generally remarks in the street that were the main focus of criticism, and the local lads attracted more then players we had brought in from other clubs. This particular player was almost destroyed by it. Long time ago, but I spoke to his father recently and he backed it up that his lad went through hell in his own city because he played for Hull City. I think social media can be worse and more cutting plus it spreads a lot quicker too. I also recall you really jumping up and down on here when someone posted something detrimental about teachers. Constant criticism effects people in different ways, some can ignore it whilst others will dwell on it and in football it can effect your confidence and when that goes the criticism increases. Interesting to hear Malik Wikes say that Grant McCann had him, KLP and Josh in his office this week giving them a pep talk and an arm around their shoulders. Worked last night didn't it ?
Whether we can afford another dip depends on others. Donny however need to match our form and average 2 points each from their 3 in hand to go above us. Denying them the points on Saturday for me becomes more important than winning. After that I see Peterboro as the biggest threat to the autos, but that's in our hands too. We tend to better against the decent sides away than home anyway.
Looking at the upcoming fixtures and Lincolns they are fairly similar . I've got to say I'm really surprised that they are in such a strong position . I'd be a lot more disappointed if I was a Lincoln fan and didnt win the league from that position. I think they will finish top then it's one from 7 others and a real scrap . Dont fancy the lottery of the play offs
