Ah yes, "Bert the bottlenecker", as he was affectionally known. He mixed with swingers.

We’ve had a few days around the 163/100k mark for Hull (which was mostly down week-on-week and, at least, better than going up).

Numbers look to decrease tomorrow finally though.

Coronavirus victims lost 16 years of their life on average, study suggests

Contrary to claims that many who died from COVID-19 were towards the end of their lives, new data suggests victims would have had another 16 years to live on average.

Researchers from Pompeu Fabra University in Spain looked at the difference between an individual's age at death and their life expectancy, estimating more than 20.5 million years may have been lost in total across the world.

The data is based on more than 1,279,866 deaths in 81 countries.

Years of life lost to COVID-19 may be two to nine times higher than years lost to average seasonal flu, the research suggests.

The scientists cautioned the results should be understood in the context of an ongoing pandemic and only provide a snapshot of the possible impacts of coronavirus.

So completed my 10 days of isolation today and during that time no one called on the phone or knocked on the door. May as well have been out on the piss every night.

Actuarial science and mortality/morbidity stats are based on experience. We have plenty of historical stats on "seasonal" flu. And treatments and vaccines. There were no historical stats on this essentially new scourge on mortality called "COVID-19". Until we have solid effective treatment and proven vaccines against the disease, the long-term impacts are definitely a big unknown. It will level out, with blimps based on mutations of the COVID strains.

We're are not out of the woods yet, but the science is getting on top of the situation.

The panopticon was the ultimate realization of a modern disciplinary institution. It allowed for constant observation characterized by an "unequal gaze"; the constant possibility of observation. Perhaps the most important feature of the panopticon was that it was specifically designed so that the prisoner could never be sure whether they were being observed at any moment. The unequal gaze caused the internalization of disciplinary individuality, and the docile body required of its inmates. This means one is less likely to break rules or laws if they believe they are being watched, even if they are not. Thus, prisons, and specifically those that follow the model of the panopticon, provide the ideal form of modern punishment. Foucault argues that this is why the generalized, "gentle" punishment of public work gangs gave way to the prison. It was the ideal modernization of punishment, so its eventual dominance was natural
