That's just it though, there shouldn't be any box ticking. If there were 10 men and 10 women up for 10 punditry jobs, the jobs should go to the best qualified. The way it's gone though is it'll be split 50/50 men and women - regardless of ability.

I must say though that I've yet to see that woman lino make a wrong call. She's probably the best one out there. Obviously she's there on merit and worked her way up through the ranks before all this box ticking bollocks came about.

The female linesman(oooh ) has been around for a while Essex and so she's learn't her trade, so fair play to her. You only have to look at some of the thick twats on Sky to see that they aren't employing on merit .<ok>

So what would punters think if a woman was commentating or doing punditry ringside for a heavyweight boxing match? I believe there would be a massive switch off because a woman cannot have a clue about mens boxing and even our very own former Olympic and world champ from Leeds would get zero respect. So I see people like Gabby and Claire having an understanding of a sport but they never pretend to have played etc whereas Alex does but in my view cannot pretend to know how a male player feels or does certain things, so she also should try and stay away from that side of the game and just talk tactics and skills

This. The problem is they have to be better than the men, because their gaffes/blandness whatever will get highlighted more. The beeb have no significant male sport now so its logical there will be women commentating on women's sport... and then transitioning over... but ultimately doing it in a hurry and introducung those not good enough causes the opinions we are seeing expressed.

There are some excellent female sports presenters, but I struggle to think of a pundit I rate (personally find Alex Scott bland and monotone, though many seem to like her) - but it may just be down to my view on pundits in general, as I don't usually get passed Gary Neville before scratching my head. My view is that it's exceedingly rare to hear a comment from any commentator that makes you in awe of their insight. It's more the tales/stories that add to the experience. The vast majority of ex-footballers can't string a sentence together including the majority that make it onto our screens as pundits.

Bamford when he retires will certainly be able to string a few words together and would appeal to the likes of Jammy

You do her a deservice Doc, it's a brilliant comic brummie accent she puts on for a cockney. Apparently, she does a great Jamie Carragher too as part of her stand up routine. Rory Bremner eat your heart out!

My opinion on Bamford is very much dependent on whether he signs a new deal or not.

If he pisses off to Scumchester/Liverpool or wherever, then he'll be a forever tw*t...although it would guarantee his future as a pundit though.

Absolutely right. The Americans introduced The Rooney rule in NFL and it has been brought in over here in our football. An ethnic minority person must be interviewed for a managers role when they come up.

This is ridiculous. Firstly there are a smaller number of ethnic coaches out there. This may be because there is a problem of racism in football but is more likely that black people make up 3% of the population in this country. They are now expected to be given 50% of jobs available. This is a massive imbalance.

I had the misfortune of listening to Trevor Sinclair on Talksport. Regardless of his ethnicity he is thick as dog muck and talks absolute ****e. I mean about every subject they discuss with him. I have never heard him say anything thats made me think "Ooh, that's a good point."

So one day the subject of racism is being discussed. Sinclair tells a story of being interviewed for a job and not getting it. In his mind the only reason he did not get the job was the colour of his skin. At no point did the thought ever enter his mind that maybe he just eff'ed up the interview and just was not good enough.

He was debating with Simon Jordan at the time. As an ex club owner he made one of the best points I have heard. He believes that in a results driven industry, where millions are made from winning and doing well, if an owner thought that the person being interviewed was the best person for the job would they not hire this person based on their skin colour. I seriously doubt this.

Fair point regarding balding.....but as recently why did they have 2 women doing the f a cup draw..what is the point they are making, it's only picking a ball out of a bag, pick 2 kids out to do it....make it really inclusive.

So as we seem to have done pundits to death, how about journo’s who just make shyte up for clicks but once one does it on a story everybody else gets in on it.

Last week: Raphinah wanted by Liverpool every day same story
This week: Raphinah wanted by Man Utd and Liverpool........
