Would be a great signing to enhance the squad and he can play anywhere across the middle and as a second striker also. At the right price he would be class. Is his contract not up at the end of the season??

Am a massive fan of Hoilett, he's pacey, tricky, reminds me of a younger N'Zogbia...without the attitude! He'd be a great signing and fits Pardews requirement of versitile players.

Think he'd be playing up front as a quick tricky partner for Ba.

Would love him and he is better than Obertan for me. Have to say I'd be very surprised if we signed him. I said the other week that he will end up at a top 4-6 club because he is a bit special. We have had a long standing interest if rumours are to be believed but you are talking 15m to get him so I very much doubt he'll be in our range, and will more likely have much better options.

  7. Good cover for Marv, but would he leave to be a bench warmer?

His contract runs out next summer, we could sign him on a pre-contact agreement for nowt.

Looks like it's us v Spurs at the minute but we've shown interest in him before. We tried signing him in January but Kean convinced his dad he'd be better off staying at Blackburn. Now the lad refuses to sign a new contract it looks like we're possibly in pole position. If we can stay in the Top 8 (6?) come January I think it might be enough to convince him Spurs aren't that much better than us.

I wouldn't mind him tbh, excellent player and never fails to impress in a **** Blackburn side.

He'd have a lot of competition for places if he came here, in any of the positions he can play - on the wing, second striker type role? Would also command a hefty transfer free, unless we get him on some sort of pre-contract agreement type thing as already pointed out. But with both us and Spurs 'apparently' interested I imagine Blackburn would be looking to let him go in January for a fee. Cracking player who I'd love to have here but I'd be more inclined to push for an out and out striker first if we end up spending 10mil+ in January. (cliché NUFC I know, blah blah striker blah blah but never mind <laugh>)

Competition. Any player who would rather be the one good player in that position in a mediocre team rather than fighting for a place in a better team isn't worth signing anyway.

Also since when is Marveaux a starter?

I thought he'd already agreed in principle on a new contract with Blackburn and they were just haggling over the release clause? I'm sure I read he wanted it to be 15m, they wanted it to be 18m. Could be wrong. I don't think he'll be a free ftrasnfer and if he was we'll defo struggle more to get him. He'd be the signing of the summer for someone on a free and would command monster wages which I doubt we'd pay. Maybe we can just use our CL revenue.........................

If it was just us and Spurs then who knows because he'd know Lennon would be first choice. But I suspect you'd get the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man C, Man U if he is free plus a host of top foreign clubs. Be difficult but I'd be over the moon if it can happen. I think Smudger said our priorities are LB, CB and ST, with secondary needs being RW and CM cover. I'd agree with that and although he falls into the secondary needs category, you don't pass up opportunities to sign players of this standard.

I'll just agree with what most have said. He looks like a very good player and would add a lot of versatility to our squad. He's a speed freak also so that fits in with Pardew wanting to build a team with pace.

And from Ashley's point of view, young, free, affordable wage, 5 year contract = sell on potential.

He'd be wasted at Spurs, they'd have him rotting away barely getting a kick.

Technically he wouldn't be free as you have to pay compensation on anyone under 23, if you get them at the end of the contract. Anyway, hands off we want him <grr>

Hoilett might be a good player but surely if he signed for Newcastle or Tottenham he would be in direct competition with Van Der Vaart or Ben Arfa, now is he really going to displace either of them.

Come on now guys, he would definitely be a good addition to improve the squad ,and competition for places , but he's certainly not in the class of Ben Arfa as a second striker(as some of you have pointed out he could play). But he could be seen challenging the winger spot, even then we have up and comers like Shane Ferguson, Sammy...

If we're looking at possibly sneaking a Europa place over the next couple of seasons, he's exactly the sort of squad player we need to be signing.
