This may be far too simple, but as we know a defender can be moulded to play as a striker when the need arises, we've done it before. Emmanuel has physical presence, pace, quick feet and can even get a shot off now and again. He links well with Wilkes and is one of our stifled talents. Now I know **** all about management but when our front 3 can't create a chance let alone hit the target then I would turn to a big strong lad and say "show me what you can do son". Am I being naïve, desperate or slightly more adept than the current idiot picking the team? It's only ****ing football for fux sake.
Square pegs in round holes. Don't see much option but to start the way we're starting until Jones and Whyte come back. It's not the tactics, it's just we have a forward line who are currently desperate for a goal and snatching at their chances. Tide will turn it we play like Lincoln and MK games for the rest of the season.
It's partly a forward line that's desperate for a goal, but it's way more. Of course it's tactics and of course he has options. Examples: Start with Emmanuel. Choose whether to play Honeyman or Crowley, not both If persisting with 4 2 3 1 (or 4 3 3) then what's happened to Scott and Mayer? (why have they apparently gone backward, even disappeared) Fresh legs after 70 mins or so where needed. Recognise that we DO need a striker (oops, too late) Get back to having some urgency, press, pace. Try 4 4 2 or 3 5 2. There's lots he could do. But he does next to nothing. Wash, rinse, repeat, not my fault.
I'd start Emmanuel, gives us options. I'd also have liked a striker. But we don't know what was available for the budget during the window. He has tweaked the formation recently, with limited success. Agree about the legs. I'd have brought Scott on against MK as well as Chadwick, though I'm not sure there was much in terms of attacking threat on that bench last week. I'm not sure we can play the same way when teams sit in and there's little space behind though. That nullifies the Pace of KLP and Wilks so they're trying a more patient approach when limited to playing in front of the opp defence - I'd have thought Crowley would be perfect for that and hopefully it'll click soon, but we also need to start burying the chances we are creating. Defensively I'm not seeing huge problems. We're limiting sides and are still fairly tight. Have a bit more confidence with Ingram in goal over the last couple though....
The whole thing for me was brilliant. Good silly humour whether he meant it as that or not. DMD is it worth posting that on the Liverpooooool not606 board for a laugh. I'd do it myself if I knew how.
