Normally a score of 300-6 at stumps would be regarded as a finely balanced day, but India seem to be well on top.
I'm concerned enough about our 1st innings, let alone our 2nd. I'm inclined to already totally write off our 2nd innings.
Root taking the new ball tells you how well he thinks his spinners bowled. Is it not possible for our so called front line spinners to work out they needed to bowl a bit quicker on that track..? They have already got a hundred too many..
This match underlines the need to remove the toss. Away team should automatically choose. Prepare a pitch like this and you should definitely forfeit the toss.
England's secret weapon Broad coming in at 11 to smash the bowling all over the park! Or more likely he hits a couple of big shots then loses his off stump.
Hard to work out if our batting made this pitch look worse than it is or if our spin bowling is just crap. Considering Root looked to be getting the most out of the pitch I'm leaning toward the latter!
Yep, which is why I'm not fussed in the slightest. This game was over on day one. I also personally don't see the toss as being an issue in this test. It was clearly helpful in the 1st test - as it so often is on the sub-continent - but in this test, there has never been a time that it was good to bat on. I could easily have seen us bowled out for 134 on day one, let alone day two. India have better spinners, and better batsmen against spin. So when the pitch is like this from ball one, they should always be beating us. Bat or bowl first.
