I confess to being 'uncomfortable' about the BLM campaign. I find it hard to see how actions taken on a sports field in Sunderland will help to change the way Americam Police Forces treat Black suspects, but I find the actions of some US Police to be so uncivilised that some sort of protest is needed, even if it's a pointless one. So uncomfortable or not, I'm for it. If anyone comes up with a better idea, all well and good.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a football match kick off on the tele, can’t be arsed with all the arse licking taking a knee bollocks.
It's not a big deal either way for me. However, I don't like sport being used as a vehicle for politics, nor do I like our police force being lumped in with the US. The relentless kneeling in our football games makes it look as if there's a massive problem to countries taking the broadcasts imo. There's a problem, but the country is basically decent ... ... the 'protest' is becoming a parody in my opinion.
Sure it was originally for “ the first 12 games” - which at last seasons restart meant 2 games for Villa and 3 others to catch up , then a weekend fixture of 10 games. Yet it stretched to season end , and keeping it up now I find virtually pointless . I won’t watch MOTD because of their insistence of highlighting it every single time , and the way the commentators wet themselves in admiration of the players doing it . I’m all for the changes that need to be , but sick of the saturation
Sport is part of life just as politics is..to pretend sport can stand aloof is silly.. look at the 1936 Olympics.... From the Carlos, Edwards to in 1968, to various boycotts by Russia/USA of Olympics...protests, gestures at Sport will always happen cos its high profile. Racism tweets etc still going on about black players. I reckon politics played a part in Saudi not taking over the skunks, cos of their human rights abuse and the Govt not wanting Sportswashing, golf and F1 does not have a problem with ot mind. Where I do agree is that I do wonder if gestures have any meaningful impact. It would be good to hear from some black players what they think.
Good post mate, even certain black players have had enough. If anyone dare to criticise or disagree with the racist movement that is BLM they are the child of the devil. It isn’t just a case of taking the knee, they’ve moved it on with the raised clenched fist. Millwall were chastised for their fans behaviour, then when the opposition score a couple of players take a knee in front of the fans with a raised clenched fist, nothing said! Double standards stinks when it comes to this.
I don't think it's silly at all nor does sport not being used for political issues makes it aloof. It's sport and supposed to be an entertainment for the masses just as horse racing, theatre, etc, is. Its not there to be used by any particular movement no matter how worthy. There should be no room for politics in sport otherwise it creates divisions, not mends them. If BLM is promoted by English football it entrenched the views of racists like the Millwall supporters who booed at their match. I don't believe any particular group of people should be represented.
The raised black fist (black power) which is now regularly seen on our televisions is a sign of black nationalism, and it has no place on any sports field. The 1936 Olympic Games springs to mind when the Nazis used it as a political platform, it is widely condemned and quite rightly. The similarities are there, I refuse to be part of it, I turn it off until the match starts as do all of my family & friends. Jesse Owens would not conform and make the Nazi salute and is seen as a hero for it, but if a white man refuses to take the knee he is called a racist by some. The left wing are creating a huge racial divide, and they are highlighting something that does not exist in the magnitude that their propaganda states. The world is far more divided now than before George Floyd's death.
Haven't watched MOD for at least five years as I think Lineker is an absolute tit, and the pundits talk utter bollocks, they never criticise fellow professionals and in general they think Steve Bruce is doing a good job as a manager which says it all. It's just not me.
Today Brentford announced their players will no longer take the knee as it no longer has any significance, could have told them that months ago.
What annoys me is that the commentators have to tell us why they are taking a knee before every game as if we are all oblivious or just plain thick. I object to being patronised by the likes of Sky. I know racism, homophobia etc... is bad and don’t need to be told about it every day. Taking a knee will not change somebody’s mind, if anything it will harden their position.
