He wasnt even considering it a couple of months back IIRC. Theres not much talk about it whereas we've heard rumblings about the others expecting at the same time.
I thought he did very well. Agree not immense but for a first game he was certainly good. That gives us Him, Vesty and Bedders who all look to be good on their day and Jack as number 4, who although I have always had concerns about him, had a really good run of games for us a few weeks back when Vesty was out. I’d be comfortable with that in the squad. Sally looks like he could be the real deal. Not quite VVD debut standards (that day at WBA was like a stroll in the lark for him) but certainly got the attributes needed.
I`m delighted Salisu is fit now and with the squad. I`m not in the anti-Jack brigade however. If Jack had produced the same performance as Salisu tonight, would he be cut the same slack ??
Thought it was interesting to see someone other than Stephens.... although earlier on in our good run after Vesty was injured the results with him in the side weren’t bad, he still frustrates and scared me with the pace he slows us building from the back from and his lazy passing style.... Sally was off the pace today understandably but given a run of games and a bit of settling in time, I can see him easily being above Jack....
Regards to Salisu, I thought he showed signs of why we’ve had to wait so long for his debut, but also signs of why he is apparently held in high regard. A Ghanaian bloke at work thinks a lot of him, for whatever that’s worth. Don’t think he’s played for his country though?
It's sort of a fair point, but it was his debut and he's not played competitive football for 8 months. There's something about the way a footballer carries themselves, and certainly for a defender, confidence, poise and composure. You could see all that in the first ten minutes with him. Yes, there were a couple of ricks, but once he gets used to things over here and the fact you don't have as much time as you might think, I can see him being a force. The ceiling there is way, way, way above Jack. Remember he's only 21 too.
I wasn't expecting Salisu to be perfect. There was bound to be a bit of rust from not playing competitive football for ages. But there's already a lot to like from tonight's game.
does anyone have clips of the goals they can post, not able to get the game here? Sounds like a good win, and Salisu had a good debut.
I was just giving my thoughts on Toms post. Salisu is our future left centre back and Janik is here until the end of the season at least. Thats great! We wil see what happens inthe summer. (End of the lockdown ?) Realy cant wait to meet you guys and gals.
I agree, so why not move Jack on rather than Jannik? I think it’s academic as we probably need 4 CB’s anyway, but Stephens is definitely moving down the pecking order now Salisu has been shown to be worth the wait.
If Vesty isn't going to sign a new deal then Jack will be the more likely of the two to stay. And I'm not sure Jack would have that many suitors.
Salisu is LEFT FOOTED, am I wrong in thinking that R B is the only other left footer in the squad? Much needed..
