And my point is i like thousands of other Sunderland fans have every right to have a moan at the minute. We are 7th in League One having had 3 really poor results of late. Guess what if there is nothing to moan about i dont moan. Crazy stuff eh. If you dont like realism of the current plight we are in scroll past it
We have been in a "**** phase" for about 7 year i know that much. And people wonder why people are pissed off and negative at the minute. Jesus Christ
I do sort of agree, but Parkinson had roughly the same players and no one was cutting him any slack for it! Don't remember anyone saying "I'd keep Parkinson, the squad is turgid and full of cowards, he can only work with what he's got". For me, we were near the play offs under Parkinson, who we unanimously agreed was doing ****e. Johnson will have plenty of games, and the benefit of a window, so I don't think it's asking too much to expect a head coach (the type of role renowned more for improving the players they've got) to be capable of getting top six. There are weaknesses in the squad, but it's a league one squad, all clubs will have weaknesses. We've also got plenty of players that others would love to have in their squad. I know some are out but Hume, Willis, Wright, Mcgeady, Jones, even Wyke on this seasons form. Plus we've generally got strength in depth, for right back we can have McLaughlin, Power, Sanderson or O'Nien as an example. Far too early to be suggesting he goes, but I don't think it's asking too much to expect the new man to be able to make an impact without requiring an entirely new squad to do it. If it takes a whole new squad he shouldn't be here, because the whole idea of a head coach is that you can have a level of continuity without having to change the whole squad every time a coach leaves. And to be fair to him , Johnson has already said he believes this squad of players can succeed at this level. I daresay he himself will be thinking he should be capable of getting us top 6
I'd have had Paul Cook to get the best out of this bunch. I feel at this stage we need a Reid type man in, someone with a bit of ****e n onions about them, someone to kick their arses and not stand arms folded on the touchline when it's going away from us. He'd keep it simple but have us playing on the front foot. None of this POMO stuff that just seems to confuse this lot. I'll stress, it's all my opinion of course.
Everyone, me included, is dissatisfied after a defeat, the state of the squad and the position we're in ... ... but I can see we're addressing the situation. If we weren't I'd be moaning louder than anyone, you included.
Good post. Infuse some bottle into the squad to help our very promising young players, no need for wholesale changes, just some judicial pruning as you say.
Given up waiting now, it is too late to be of any value as, although we all know we are operating under the new regime, little has changed out on the pitch. Players getting drafted in and out for no reason, playing a system that only the manager thinks is right, still can't hold a lead, our luck with injuries still holds, too many draws mean we are outside of the playoff positions and still no fans in the stadium. I feel like Rip van Winkle in reverse, I went to bed two weeks ago and woke up in early October.
Earlier on I was thinking about early Reidy days.....we played away,Reading?...and we were ****e,must have got beat 4-0 or something like that. Anyway,he was so pissed off, that was the moment for him to change everything he was doing with that squad.........! He knew it wasn't working and he got something new into them! The coming seasons,as they say,is history,..but definately the best I've experienced.
You're right for the most part of everything said above, however I am concerned about his judgement on putting Matthews in goal. Burge isn't very good, however he is ten times better than Matthews. If you are going to try something than I rather he tried Patterson than Matthews as we know exactly what we are going to get. I am all for giving LJ time, however this decision baffles me.
My own metric for judging Johnson was after a dozen or so games plus January transfer. Well draws and losses and table position very similar to Parkinson. However we are creating chances and scoring a bit more with Johnson. Very much Atm a WIP... then of course, it is not certain we will make play-offs nevermind getting an automatic promotion. We are looking good for periods in games, but not consistent. On transfers, where is Winchester is he injured, in the games he has played the trees have remained rooted. Not a creative force we needed. Back-up LB... he may improve, but again atm not showing well at all. Jones is not fit, but is showing promise. Striker, injured not played yet... Getting rid on the G non- force good thing. So I conclude some sign of improvement But not enough?
Hang on here a minute. The only things i have moaned about on here of late are the followimg Drawing at MK Dons was a bad result - it was Getting beat of Shrewsbury was a bad result - it was The new owner has an astronomical job on his hands here - he does We are currently at our lowest ever ebb - we are If you disagree with any of that you are very much in the minority. For the record i have posted numerous posts on here about how positive i am in regards to the new owner going forward. So "twisting on 21"is utter bollocks
I've lost track but, since Johnson arrived, we may well have lost every defender to injury ... ... our defence, under Parkinson, was the best thing about the team. It's all over the place now, last night was the worst this season.
I agree with that. I'm concerned they didn't go for a new keeper tbh. But it was obvious that Matthews was awful, I don't think we needed to try him again in order to prove it. What he needs to do now is make a decision and stick to it. The keepers will already have low confidence, chopping and changing won't help either them or the defenders. I think Matthews can be written off, he's awful. For me, he either backs Burge and keeps him in regardless (he's poor, but likely no worse than a lot of others at this level), or he decides he can't trust either and gives Patterson the extended run
We alternated Camp and Steele thereby destroying each of their confidence. I said a month ago to just leave Burge where he is, he's not great but he's good enough. The defence have to know who's there imo.
He put matthews in goal because he looked ok against mk dons in cup game, burge has mmade a few mistakes recently it was a reasonable decision thay has back fired
Spot on GG, we could probably try get someone out of contract but not sure if there are any decent out there. I am actually starting to think that Ben Alnwick would have been a better option, have I gone mad or is Matthews that bad he makes Alnwick ½ decent.
