We've got the same goalkeeper predicament as we did a few years ago between Ruiter and Steele. We need to try find out which one is slightly less sh!tter than the other .
I remember at the time I was saying we should give Max Stryjek a try, another big confident lad who could have solved the problem. We blanked him and now he plays for Livingston, fifth best team in Scotland and who would probably batter us.
My turn for a little rant. This experience is not working. McGeady = Bench. Good as an impact sub. LEDS = Bench. Good to close games down when we are more than 1 effing goal up. Power = Bench. Canny crosses upfront but he is playing at RB. Cannot defend. Dan Neil = gets a game plays very well. Not even in the squad next game. Diamond = Diamond. Automatic starter. Find a place for him. Sanderson. Give him a run of games in a fixed position. Willis probably finished at least for the season now. Give it to Sanders. Basically get the younguns in. They couldnt be any worse. Jones and Diamond on the wings with any 2 of 3 in the middle. Gucchi, AOB or Charlie. Scowen & Onien in the middle. Back 4 of ideally Sanderson, Wright, Willis & Hume. Before anybody wants to argue I would like you all to know I won FIFA 2007 Manager of the Year so I know my stuff.
Yes i was the same mate. We must surely have a better keeper in the U23s than them 2, or even the U14s for that matter.
Patterson is highly rated, we'll probably find out what Johnson thinks of him because he'd be daft not to consider it. He's clearly not impressed with Burge or he wouldn't have dropped him against Shrewsbury.
Pickford had been out on loan getting plenty of experience before his step up to the first team. Why do you think LJ didn’t bring in a keeper in January? If he thinks our 2 keepers are rubbish then why hasn’t Patterson been playing instead? By the way leaving Sunderland to play for Eastleigh for 2 seasons before moving to Livingston is no measure of a goalkeeper’s excellence. Anyway, I’ve put my case, we should stick with Burge as he’s clearly the best of the 3 and get behind him until the end of the season and then look to replace him.
Perhaps we could play both Burge and Matthews at the same time? Or would it be like keystone kops and they would fall over each other. It is my humble opinion that their abilities are similar, that is barely adequate.
We still have half a season left so if its being treated as a pre-season for next season then thats accepting failure on a massive level, personally I think if he fails to get us into the play offs he will be on thin ice. Too many changes for certain, he doesnt know his best team or formation, his interviews make me cringe sometimes, time to stop the spin and put his words into actions. Burge being allowed to settle has already cost us enough points, he had to act and drop him but surely he already knows Mathews is just as bad if not worse. He spoke about developing the young lads and to be fair he has gave them a chance so why not Patterson, we can all see the 2 senior keepers are capable of regular howlers so there is no harm in giving Patterson a chance. Typical Sunderland last night, new owner in the stands, positive start then fall to pieces, we have all seen it many times before and normally when things are not quite right the fans can spot it very early. Johnson needs to get this sorted and quickly before our season unravels bigtime.
Lucky you!!! We're not allowed!!! On O'Brien - I agree totally - although he cut across Wyke in the second half for that chance (I thought the ball flicked his head before getting to Wyke as well to be fair) It's the first time this season where I've ended up completely disheartened! But I honestly, thinking about it now, think it's down to the keeping situation! If Patterson is good enough, then he's old enough. End of story. Pickford was so Patterson is too. It's desperate when we're asking for a keeper with no experience that very few on here have seen play!! Scary
I didn’t see the match last night, but can anyone explain the picture on the first page to me? We have Freddie Mercury sitting on his arse, obviously after a howler. O’ Brien and Sanderson appear to be challenging a ball in play, yet Power and Leadbitter have completely given up and turned their back on the play https://safc.com/news/team-news/202...nMekEggYclvJZutyixi9EIBQTvdXq7GEwYBz2V9AK6ffE
i wish Chapman played for us he plays like Nicky summerbee remember him ? we take too long with the ball twist, turn, pass etc run into the penalty area man. why thier 3rd goal was ruled out i don't know.

Pretty sure that was the offside goal when Matthews tried to lay on top of the cross into the box but went underneath him. It was obviously over the line and a ridiculous howler by Matthews which is why Leadbitter and Power turned away as they did. I'm guessing O'Brien and Sanderson decided to ignore the fact the ball went in and the linesman's flag had gone up and kept playing on. I have absolutely no idea how Matthews ended up so far away from the goal mind you as he was about a yard out when he fell over and let the ball underneath him
