You can't buy it at that price over here because of Drakeford and his minimum 50p a unit policy. <grr>

so far not as erratic LJ in his last 30 odd games ! but LJ is currently ahead on points with about 8 games to go! … I was on DH side before he was confirmed and whilst i keep most of my notes to myself … a few on here were very anti DH getting it .. with the superior???? coach's !!!! we should manage a max of 4 LLLL in a row before season end …. first hurdle is next 4 !

I went to my local Aldi last Friday and they only had Stella in cans which I really don't like the taste of. To be fair they had a good selection of beers there, just no bottled Stella :emoticon-0106-cryin

Not adverse to a drop of Guinness myself, but Stella has been my 'go to' drink for donkeys years. I just resent paying £1.40 a pint for it when it was £0.90 a few weeks ago

I'm drinking Carlsberg Export these days - it slips down a treat!
I don't particularly like Stella and it makes me argumentative (although I recognise it and can control it - I fully understand why it has the nickname 'wifebeater'). I will only drink it in the absence of another 'premium' (5%) beer.
I get my stock by the crate (24 pint cans) from my local Booker wholesalers - it's not THAT cheap because I still pay the VAT on it, but it's definitely cheaper than buying it in an off-licence or normal supermarket.
I might crack one open now, thinking about it - it's sunny, I'm working from home, so nobody will know - and the wife is out......cheers!! <cheers>

Stella had that reputation for many years, but probably about 10 years ago now they reduced the alcohol content from what was (I think)5.2% to 4.8%. So these days the likes of Heineken, Peroni, Carlsberg Export and Kronenbourg 1664 are all stronger
I find Kronenbourg in particular hard going these days and the older I get the more it tastes like Special Brew !

I LOVE Kroney! Another one of my favourites. £2.90 a pint at my local Wetherspoons (The Savoy) before lockdown.

I may be wrong (like I said, I don't really like it, so don't buy it), but aren't the bottles and cans of Stella still 5.2%? I think it's only the draft beer that's been weakened(?) That's definitely true of San Miguel - and I think that Peroni is more than 5%.
As a self-confessed beer monster I've had many many sessions on all types and strengths of beer and lager - even Leffe (over 6%), but Stella is the ONLY beer that I've ever had anger issues after drinking. Many ciders are over 5% and I drink lots of that stuff in the summertime.
Like I said, I recognised that I was feeling irrational and I just kept very quiet when I felt it coming on, but it was DEFINITELY associated with that particular brand, so I don't think the evil ingredient was simply the alcohol strength on its own. After this had happened several times I stopped drinking it - and the angry episodes stopped at the same time.
Snakebite is said to have the same effect and there is no more alcohol in that than there is in a normal 'premium' beer.
I did have a similar reaction to Prosecco after a heavy session on it when it was 'all you could drink' free (I would NEVER drink the stuff normally!!!!) - maybe that evil ingredient is in that stuff too?
BTW - being aggressive is not in my nature at all. I avoid trouble in the main. <peacedove><smooch>

I've just looked in my full recycling bag and the empty bottles of Stella (too many to count!) say the abv is actually 4.6% so it's obviously been lowered again
When I worked in France for nearly a year every night was Leffe night ! It was frequently combined with Super Bock which is a Portugese lager that we also used to drink gallons of.
The Hen & Chicken used to have Leffe on draught (at a price!) but I've not been there for a while so I don't know if they were still selling it at Lockdown. The Windmill in Windmill Hill used to sell Lowenbrau but they've closed down. That was a beer to really send you loopy !
And the Hare in North St used to sell Erdinger which I love but they'd changed it for something not as good last time I went there.
So meantime I'm choking down Peroni and Heineken until Tesco and Asda want my custom back
I've seen several people get lairy on Stella and especially Snake Bite over the years. Happy days <cheers>
