Back in the 70s, I was born in Scotland to a man born in Cheshire who spent his early years on Merseyside. Why are we Sunderland supporters? My Grandpa.....he was a young man from Jarrow when Sunderland were the best team in the country in the 1930s. He made sure all 4 sons were brought up Sunderland fans. He couldn't have foreseen the pain and suffering he would be responsible for. The twat
The joy of our support, in defeat, has been twice that of the victory of other clubs. It was tragic watching Leicester winning the title when half the ground couldn't join in with the songs. They just clapped with their little plastic hand things which was, tbh, pathetic.
The various images of Leicester fans "celebrating" their title has stayed with me. There was so many "yay, we've won the league....yay" If we won the league like they did, I'd still be pissed 5 years later
Just saw this from Upthere over the road, He's not usually a billy bullshitter... "Donald using some creative accounting measures to show proof of funds as the EFL want liquid(ish) cash and not net money. Donald’s been moving personal wealth about, whilst Sartori’s proof of funds was shown weeks ago. Been communication to whether Donald can use the cash from KLD as a source of proof of funds with a guarantee. Donald also asked if he needs to show just the proof of funds that would equate to the percentage he would hold under the new share ownership. E.g if he holds 14% he only needs to show 14% of the overall proof of funds. Also questions wether JS and SD can join funds to show the proof of funds needed, imagine JS would have enough to cover Donald’s amount. Delays because of this as it sounds like SD hasn’t had the greatest year in terms of finances. EFL being very strict but KLD and Sartori have passed the checks."
Well Well this is certainly the most plausible reason I've heard that would explain both the delay and apparent lack of concern
Nice one mate. The EFL are pushing the boundaries of their remit here, they're virtually saying that Louis-Dreyfus is capable of just walking away from a multi-million pound investment. They're asking Donald for guarantees that they can't possibly enforce. It looks good but it's pointless.
In the EFL’s defence this is their new regime trying to overcompensate for being incompetent previously. They’re going too far but it’s still probably better this way than it was - despite being frustrating for us. They’re basically trying to stamp down on freeloaders in it for a quick buck.
Well I don’t see why we have to suffer twice in recent years because of their incompetence. Imagine if KLD decided to walk away from it all BECAUSE of these ****s That puts us in worse and more perilous shape the useless bastards, so hardly “better this way than it was”.
definitely better than it was if this is the way they are treating all takeovers, and it seems they are. We have got unlucky with the timing but if this is the EFL’s way of weeding out people like Stewart Donald then fantastic.
It might not be weeding him out though. You are looking at it through rose tinted spectacles thinking KLD will just buy his shares. I’m not saying he will but what happens if he doesn’t want full ownership just yet, what if he decides enough is enough and buys a club abroad. That is all hypothetical but the EFL are putting even more clubs at risk if an existing owner has to provide proof of funding even when a billionaire is going to have the majority. If SD decides in 2 years time that he won’t put in any more, what will they do? Have they asked CM for his 6%? Who are these other clubs that are being asked the same since “it seems they are doing it this way”.
I’m not through rose tinted spectacles at all. I’m looking at it through non- red and white coloured spectacles. If the EFL are going to make it harder for people who don’t have any money to own any part of a football club that can only be a good thing. This will get sorted. But it’s good news that the EFL have become stricter
I don't think this can really be the case mind. Donald is selling a load of his shares to KLD. He's obviously going to be paid for these. Surely that alone would give him enough liquid assets to enable him to prove he could fund 15% of a league one club for 2 years? Just my personal opinion but I doubt it's a case of them suspecting he doesn't have the funds, I imagine it's more wanting guarantees that he'll put some of it into the running of the club as required. There'll have been a costed business plan submitted. KLD will be showing that he has funds for 60% of it, they'll just need confirmation that the rest of the funding required will come from the other shareholders. I wouldn't be surprised if KLD is pushing for this just as a bit of extra security tbh
I'm led to believe there's no way KLD would walk away from this. If it transpired that he had to purchase all of the shares I imagine he'd jump at the chance to be rid of Donald tbh
They are also going to make it harder for investments. They are utterly incompetent and now are overstepping the mark. Who are these other clubs that they are doing it to?
