I assume its the movement Billy Hughes perfected, from where he scored regularly with a side foot or glancing header across the keeper. Only guessing mind.

POMO, its a way of telling skivers like Graham Grigg and Maguire that they are fooling nobody.

    Position of maximum opportunity.

In other words best position to be in to get a goal scoring chance. At least I reckon anyway.

Exactly, and Johnson's made it clear he expects more than one player to be getting there in attacks.

I've lost count of the amount of wasted balls going across the 6 yard box in the past.

Hume was criticised, at first, because he'd put balls in without finding a Sunderland player ...

... that's because they were all hiding <laugh>

If we have attacking players gambling on space to be in, rather than waiting for the delivery, Hume will get bags of assists.

Yep 100% correctly explained - as a retired ex FA coach, and from school boy days, you instill into your CF's to hit that near post position before anyone else - this way you take away the defender's duties to clear that in coming ball.

Dare I say, the likes of Shearer was a master at it !

I tend to find we have no one who anticipates a mistake from the defence. Just take a chance and get in scoring positions.

I see what you mean - 7 or 8 out of his top 10 came from crosses.

It is funny all the modern terms in coaching. I have been coaching for years and it does make me chuckle because there is nothing really new in football, just new phrases to describe old ideas. The last thing that had a fundamental change on the way teams play, in my opinion, was keepers not being able to pick up a backpass.

High press is a good example. The dutch did that in the 70s when they had that brilliant team. Cruyff brings it to Barca and Pep follows Cruyff mentality but you would think it was a Pep or a Klopp invention. I coach with a fair few younger lads now and I often have a laugh when they have this 'new' training idea and I tell them it used to be called something less fancy but has been around a while.

I like it when a team win the world cup playing slightly differently than the norm and then all of a sudden 'thats the way to play' and everyone tries to copy it. Like teams in our league trying this short goal kick nonsense when only a few select teams have the quality to do it properly.
