VAR was supposed to be a benefit to football, but Mike Dean the bellend killed off a decent Bamford goal that would have put Leeds 2-1 in the first Leiester game, which could have had a different result. Last night he screwed up again and VAR is killing football. Offside interpretation isnt done by an algorithm its done by a ref watching on telly. So as we know refs see things differently so for every game we get a view of ref1 which could be different from ref2 so this alone screws up offsides. VAR is taking way to long to decide which means the benefit of the doubt should go to the attacker, as it used to be.

It's a nightmare and always seems to happen just before we score. <wah>

VAR just means you get two **** refs instead of one. Personally, it’s killing all that is good in football and I’d scrap it immediately and I mean that even when decisions go in our favour.

If Raphinha is out then Costa has to start. I'd like to see Summerville on the bench. Costa seems to have his best performances when he gets a run of games. He is clueless off the bench. Some players are just like that.

    Klich in for Rodrigo.

We beat Everton 1-0 earlier this season but they had plenty of chances as did we. Was a 50/50 game. Hopefully we can pinch this one too.

Spot on London. As I mentioned before, it's also killing the enjoyment of betting. I needed the Saints to score one goal against the scum last night and of course VAR ruled it out offside. Football is beginning to become sterile and clinical because of this system.<ok>

I do not see any surprises tonight regarding team selection.

If the two R's are both out I think we will see Costa and Klich come in. This means we will be starting our best championship 11 almost with Struijk being the only difference.

I am more than happy with Struijk playing. His height could help against Calvert-Lewin.

Both Klich & Costa have struggled for form recently although Klich did look better against Leicester. Both need to see tonight as their chance to show Bielsa why they are still capable. Costa looked excellent ion the first 3-4 games of the season, I want that player back tonight.

Difficult to try and predicts tonight’s game tbh. If the Leeds that played at the weekend turns up combined with the Everton that meekly handed Newcastle 3 points, then there’s only one outcome. But I’d hope that game was the kick up the arse we needed and we’ll turn up tonight and battle for every ball. The reverse fixture was a really good game, you had the balance of play, but both sides had great chances and you won it with a wonder strike. Let’s see what tonight brings.

Yeh good luck and may the best team win...as long as it's us of course.

Seriously though, it looks like we'll probably be missing a couple (Rodrigo & Raphinha) due to injuries but no excuses as we have good players to come in. Might leave us a bit short on the bench though as Poveda (winger) got crocked for the U23's the other day as well. Expect Helder Costa and Tyler Roberts to get game time and both should be chomping at the bit along with Pablo Hernandez.

You'll probably have noticed we've had new pitch laid since our last home match so we're all a bit apprehensive as to how it will play. Looks great on the photos but the snow the other night can't have helped with the preparations.

No idea what kind of side we’ll put out tbh. He went very attacking at the weekend and got caught out, as there’s no way anyone expected Newcastle to play the high press and commit as many players forward as they did. I suspect he’ll revert back to the 4 CB’s across the backline and try and grind out a result, but he might take the opposite view and fancy a game of ping pong. We’ve not been the same side since we lost Allan tbh, he was key to the set up of the side that Carlo would prefer to play imo, as he provided cover for the attacking full backs and gave us some bite in midfield. I worry we’ll get overrun again tonight tbh.

If you can get yourselves enough attacking set pieces then you'll have a decent chance of a goal or two there. Deliver every corner to the edge of the 6 yard box whilst putting a blocker on our keeper and we're very vunerable, as I'm sure you've noted.

Fair point about Allan, he's your glue like Phillips is for us so he'll be a big miss tonight.

Yeah we’ve been good from set pieces this season, especially when James has been taking them.

    Pickford is out tonight btw.
