Consecutive league defeats is not something Pompey have had to get used during Kenny Jackett’s time as manager. But the Blues will be trying to avoid three on the trot when they make the trip to Charlton this weekend. The sides are separated by a single point in the League One standings, with the Londoners one place behind in sixth position, having played two games more. And both are aiming to close the gap on Lincoln and Hull, who currently occupy the automatic promotion spots. Lee Bowyer guided the Addicks into the Championship, courtesy of a Wembley victory over Sunderland at the end of the 2018/19 campaign. But their stay proved to be a short one, with a 4-0 defeat at Leeds on the final day of last term sealing their return back to the third tier. Charlton have collected more points on the road than at their own patch in the first half of the campaign, with just four home successes. They won 2-0 at Fratton Park back in October, also coming out on top in the most recent clash at The Valley in March 2019. TEAM NEWS Jack Whatmough begins a three-match ban following his sending off against Lincoln, while Alex Bass (leg), Ben Close (hamstring) and Paul Downing (hamstring) are all sidelined. Goalkeeper Lewis Ward is likely to be named on the bench following his recent loan arrival from Exeter. Charlton are missing Ryan Inniss (quad), while Akin Famewo (ankle) is a doubt and Conor Washington is also unlikely to feature after picking up a knock. Can’t see anything other than another defeat today. Horrible game to be playing on the back of two terrible defeats.
Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth called off because of waterlogged pitch Saturday's League One game between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at The Valley. The match was called off following a second pitch inspection shortly before 14:00 GMT. Heavy rain overnight and throughout Saturday morning in south east London resulted in the pitch being ruled unplayable by referee Bobby Madley. No new date has yet been set for the game to be played.
A new date has been confirmed for Pompey's postponed League One match at Charlton. The contest was called off today because of a waterlogged pitch and heavy rain at The Valley. But Kenny Jackett's side will be making a quick return, with the game rescheduled for Tuesday, February 2 (7pm kick-off).
Half - time, and it's 0-1 to Pompey who are playing with such conviction. 39th minute goal from Michael Jacobs. We have had the better first half, with lots of quick breaks, and shots on goal.

Fingers crossed! Win tonight and Pompey, like Charlton will have amassed more points on the road than at Fratton Park. Interesting to see Harness and Curtis on the bench. Likewise, Brown!!
This has been a good response by the players on the back of successive home defeats. I think a loss tonight would have seen those banging the drum of the anti-Jackett bandwagon out in force.
Final whistle. It's a superb 3-1 away win against our so called "bogie team" Charlton Athletic. Very well deserved victory. Charlton equalised in the 52nd minute from former Pompey loanee Jayden Stockley (who was probably their best player tonight), and then two lovely goals from skipper Tom Naylor with a 55th minute header from a Marcus Harness free kick, and in the 61st minute a neat shot from Andy Cannon (definitely my man of the match) to wrap things up. James Bolton played at centre half alongside Sean Raggett in a solid performance, and Charlie Daniels at left back was excellent. Three points away to one of the top teams, what isn't to like !!

We lose at home to our promotion rivals and win away. We need to beat Donny, Accrington Stanley and P'Boro. Crewe are also.on the edge. Is that 8 away wins? To be in the mix, winning away is essential. Another six away wins and another six home wins gives us 76 points, plus a few draws on the way. 78 should be enough for the play-offs, and if we are involved, we will do it this time.
Is there a weight of expectation on Ronan Curtis to deliver? Perhaps it is good for him to see the onus on someone else. I do feel he will thrive at a higher level. Maybe he will end up at Celtic!!
The first of 8 games this month! Absolutely crazy schedule. At some stage the loanees will need to be given a start. Naylor must be closet to a suspension. Who fills in for him? Has the Dane gone back?
No one seems to know whether Rasmus Nicolaisen is injured or ill !! James Bolton who is usually a right back was superb in his place whilst Jack Whatmough is suspended though.
