We are all aware of how intense the rivalry is but do you think that we would ever stoop as low as the chanting in the rect North London Derby and the recent Leeds-Manchester United game? I would hope it never does.

Not on the same scale. Of course there would be little outbursts from minority groups but nothing audible hopefully.

The difference is that people from the NE are generally warmer and nicer than london folk

I would have to unfortunately say yes.

We all know both sets of fans have knackers who wouldn't think twice about it.

I think there was a small MINORITY of idiots at a Sunderland game that tried a Bobby Robson chant when he died but I think it was drowned out by the more genuine fans. (apologise if incorrect going off some vague drunken memories a mackem ST holder mate told me)

We've got better crack than that, our chants are more witty.

The majority of our fans are good, decent people, not ****heads looking for a platform for abuse.

We in the north east actually care about football and we have a strong rivalry without giving in to mindless hatered.

"I shagged yer mam" kind of banter rather than the foul stuff heard elsewhere...

Majority of fans wouldn't say offensive things, but there is some who would.

As someone said earlier, nothing audible, however i've heard a few idiotic chants in our away support on occasions. In those cases however it was the younger lads who obviously couldn't handle their ale. They made tits of themselves and the majority of the support around them voiced their disgust.

Mountain out of a mole hill all this **** about "offensive" chanting. The way it's going there'll be a ban against raised voices next. It's not something I'd partake in myself and I do find it some of it distasteful, but it's ****ing words, man up.

Don't underestimate the power of words AG. They may seem like off the cuff comments, however a lot of violence (if not the vast majority) stems from insults and, as you say, so called 'offensive chanting'.

Like you I don't participate and I do think it's wrong. I just don't see the point in it.

Someone said some naughty words and the uptight folk who text TV breakfast shows complained about it. <ok>

They were chanting Istanbul and Munich chants at each other. Not to sure what the Cockneys were shouting at each other.

That's pretty bad that like. Although I despise Sunderland, I could never taunt anyone over the death of a person. That's sick, vile.

I believe the Adebayor chant was about the killing on the bus he was on in the ACN i think it was last year, where they pulled out because of it.
