OK, so far we have: Arsenal Highbury Bob Wilson - ex-keeper and former BBC Grandstand and MOTD presenter too. Hee-hee, Primrose..! So that leaves the defender. Why not look him up..?
Good effort with Peter Storey..! But brilliant with Peter Simpson. Well done indeed. Want to name the obscure Leicester City player further up the thread..?
Your right Peter Storey was a midfielder....the guy in the photo looks a bit like him. But I think its Peter Simpson who used to play CB with Frank McClintock in the early '70's......could be wrong but think Peter Storey ended up in prison
I'll post a couple of odd photos later, but here's the last one for the quiz. Looks like a nice spring afternoon from The Dell:
At this moment I need what the Arsenal player with his legs crossed looks like he needs so I am signing off.
While we're at it, I think we'd better link the other part of the ManU 1 Saints 4 Youtube video to here: Ron gets FOUR..! Note, that when ManU get their goal first, commentator Gerald Sinstadt shouts.., and number one for Willie Morgan... as if a hat-full were expected. Oh ye of little faith, eh..?
Crikey, these are brilliant efforts. You're even correct that it's too early for Dennis Rofe. Shall I put you out of your misery..? Yeah, I know what you mean.
Arsenal again?,Charlie George? whys Ron heading it backwards? In another life I was a TV engineer and was doing a set in a flat in Shirley near the Dell. Two men came in and I was dumbstruck to see Ron with a smaller man. When they left I said to the pretty customer 'do you know who that was all breathless like - she said yes the landlord!!
Yes, I believe he was. But it isn't him. It's this player. Don't click the link if you don't want to find out.
Arsenal, yeah it just happened that way with the photos as I was sorting them out. I believe Ron has actually missed the flight of the ball in the sunlight, and only just made contact with it. Or, he thinks Micky is further behind him, and has headed it onto him. But I reckon he's just lost sight of it in the sun. Bit early for Charlie George. I've never been 100% on the Arsenal player, at first thinking it was centre midfielder Jon Sammels. But actually, I believe it's winger George Armstrong. Although if somebody insisted it was Sammels and was 100% sure, I'd probably bow to their confidence. I've heard another story about how Ron used to get about, regarding rented apartments..!
Here are a few more photos. By all means comment on them and identify any team or anybody you think you might know: I'd love to know who this little lad is, with Ron. He's wearing one of Ron's Welsh Caps. Ron played for Wales 29 times. Click on the photos to enlarge.
All this chat about Ron takes me back to 1968, when I went to college in Newcastle and had to declare which team I supported. Of course everyone knew about Ron Davies and Saints, but they all said Wynn Davies, Newcastle player, was a better player. They formed a twin Welsh attack at the time.
Newcastles Wyn Davies better than Saints Ron Davies?? No chance....Man U and Sir Matt busby tried to get him from Saints after he scored 4 at Old Trafford...money wasn't a big thing in football then.....he stayed at Saints and when his career was going downhill...unfortunately he had to play down the road
Wyn Davies was a very, very capable player, but he wasn't in the same class as Ron. Perhaps the Toon fans meant the other Ron Davies who played for us, a couple of seasons before Big Ron turned up..? A fine footballer in his own right.
