Because while he moved his hand away from his body, that movement happened before the contact with his leg. The ball went from leg to arm so quickly that no person could possibly have intent between those two moments, which occurred less than a tenth of a second apart. The handball rules are an absolute mess in general, but if that hits his thigh it's just not a pen under the rules.
Sorry living in the midlands I don't get to hear all the local news, but where are we with the sell of our club?
We’re too slow going forwards and need to switch play earlier and quicker. We can’t break teams down when they get 10 men behind the ball, we need to face the fact our best chance is quick passes forward and set pieces. And we don’t score set pieces without Vestergaard.
Nobody can say Villa deserve the lead, we have stopped them playing apart from once. We need a bit more of a cutting edge but we are still in with a good chance of turning this around.
Fair, I know it’s not for everyone. My concern is VAR and the way it’s managed can develop to improve, but once it’s stopped, that’s it and we are at the mercy of horror decisions which I’m sure were more plentiful before VAR. If they could speed it up and amend some of the less ridiculous rules it would vastly improve the viewing experience.
Sorry Schad, that’s not what happened. No change of direction, so the arm was in line with the ball, intentionally. Therefore a pen and a red card.
He is spreading his arm instictively to prevent the ball from going into the net and he may have done just that. Common sense tells you that it is a nailed on pen, **** interpretations.
It would be, if it didn't hit his leg. I'm not arguing what should be here: there isn't really a provision for calculating angle. The handball rule that was put in place for this season states that if the ball deflects and there isn't an opportunity to move the arm out of the way, it isn't a pen.
I agree completely. Also, Danny doesn't look the same player since his injury. I know its small percentages but since his injury shots and flicks that would have worked don't seem to now. Another point, when was the last time we scored from a header in open play?
Every time we have to change our formation we have a drop off in quality, naturally. It doesn’t seem to affect other teams as much. As soon as I saw that JWP was at FB, I thought we would be on the back foot. Hoping for better second half but expecting AV to soak up pressure and get second with a swift break away.
