I think the Beeb are fixing the league to get Lincoln promoted... please log in to view this image By the way I know that is goals scored I just think it looks funny
So, you still haven't come back and explained what wasn't English in my post. Which didn't stop saddo GLP liking your post of course.
Oxford have just won their 7th game on the bounce. Looking at Sunderland - they have only lost 4 games all season. If they can turn more draws into wins they’ll be up the top at the end of the season. Plenty of twists and turns yet with lots of teams having games in hand too.
As reported, Oxford have just put 7 wins on the board, Doncaster I think 5.... its what we need to do, create some space... but we seem incapable off doing that. maybe its because teams set out to stifle us, or maybe the inabilities to put the ball away... Sorry GLP
Or as that doyen of sports journalism once wrote "City are thinking of going with an innovative 4 4 3 formation on Saturday."
We're really, really slow in our build up. We play with our backs to goal far too often, we need to be more dynamic; we've got the players that can skin opponents yet we're giving the ball back to midfield, who go back to the centre halves to launch it forward.
They will both hit purple patches form wise like we have just come through, I honestly believe the deciding factor this season with the way fixtures are piling up and will continue to do for some, will be squad depth and quality depth. This is where I feel we have the biggest advantage. We do need to finish teams of though !
We scored the early goal and I thought great, we will walk this. 15 minutes later I just wanted the game to finish. Thankfully we claimed the three points but it was far from convincing. Until we can find consistency up front, I am beginning to think we will struggle to stay in the automatic promotion places when we get to the business end of the season.
True. But I am happier with us grinding out a 1-0 win than losing 4-3 in an end to end encounter enjoyed by neutrals.
Win ugly ? Three points, good defensive display and a clean sheet. Nice little gap at the top of the league too. A bird in the hand is worth two in the whotsit. Couldn't care less what other clubs are doing because we have the points in the bag.
Don't get me wrong, 3 points are always welcome, but the manner in which we have been playing is a little concerning. Why is it we can go to Portsmouth and win 4-0, but struggle to overcome Swindon?
Worth mentioning that if worse comes to worse, and the season gets the same treatment as last year, PPG would **** us right over. So yeah, points in the bag is great, but games in hand, in the current climate, really benefits those clubs while they have them.
"I didn't like those chips much tonight." "OH, SO YOU THINK WE SHOULD ALL STOP EATING POTATOES, THEN? AND FLOOD ALL THE FIELDS? DO, YOU, STEVEN?" The internet sometimes...
I thought first half we were brilliant and Honeyman and Crowley’s vision was cutting them to bits - just we didn’t put it to bed. McCann’s change at half-time (putting Crowley up top) was unnecessary and nonsensical and could have cost us the game. Crowley’s inventiveness was lost, KLP was having to play too defensively and instead of cutting them to ribbons we started desperately hanging on to our lead. Bonkers.
I don't know how some people come to these conclusions, I just think if we want to go up automatically, we need 20 or so Portsmouth performances.
Delighted with the 3 points but I'm not convinced the move from 4-3-3 to more like 4-4-2 really worked, mainly because the front 2 KLP and Wilks were so far apart. It felt like Wilks was still playing as a winger for the most part and leaving KLP isolated. I think 4-4-2 with Magennis and KLP in tandem could be quite interesting. Wilks has been very poor for 3 games in a row now - think he needs a rest and better advice! On the positive side, Docherty was just immense today.
