Not really no. You could say that about people who love Keegan, Shearer, Robson. You could say that about scousers love for Dalglish. Etc. I just like following the rumours as what ever happens with him will affect us.
Yeah because there's currently no jobs available apart from Chelsea and that is seemingly going to Tuchel. In a week there could be Celtic and Napoli. What realistic jobs will be available in the premier league, Newcastle, Rafa has said he won't work for Ashley again. If we get taken over, that could be a possibility, but it's a big IF. Sheff Utd, Wolves, Leeds, Palace? I'm sure Rafa would rather go to a club like Napoli than any of these. Arsenal, again depending on whether Arteta is sacked, but then there's guys like Allegri available. Rafa has a problem right now and that is the fact there's a lot of top tier managers available who he's competing with. It's literally us or Celtic in the UK. Then it could Hertha Berlin, Zenit, Napoli, Roma who are interested in him.
The problem is Rafa is 60, his peak was over a decade ago, his options are limited as to where he can go. It's not like he's coming off a European Cup win or even any kind of cup win, his most recent trophy being a championship title. Even when he went to us, his agent told him he was on a hiding for nothing and China was just a quick cash grab. I think Rafa knows the only way he's getting a top club offer is if someone like Rodgers leaves Leicester. Again with us, what happens if we get taken over and the new owners decide they want Nagelsmann and not Rafa. This is why I think if Celtic come in for him, he will go as its a chance to build up some silverware, have a strong showing in Europe and get his foot on the bigger stage again like Rodgers did and how Gerrard is doing. Same goes for Napoli, where he has unfinished business. The thing with Rafa though, is you will notice he has never gone back to a club.
Phil Thompson has said Rafa isn't taking a sabbatical and is interested in Celtic. Due to the close proximity to Merseyside.
Rodgers was earning just over £2m at Celtic, Rafa was earning double that at Newcastle and a reported £12m in China. So why would he take the Celtic job, when there’ll undoubtedly be far more lucrative jobs coming available between now and the summer? I’ll be staggered if he goes there, Big club but in a **** league, **** budget & **** wages.
Rodgers was on 2.3 mill at Celtic, Rafa was on 3.5 Mill at Napoli and 4 Mill here. It's not much of a stretch really. Rafa has also earned 4-5 years worth of wages in 18 months in China. Who knows maybe he would take a big reduction. I'm not saying he would go to Celtic, but I could see the appeal, straight in the Europa League, which is Rafas specialty, the chance to win trophies, the chance to face off against Gerrard, the press attention of that battle alone would get more eyes on the SPL and a chance to rejuvenate his career like Rodgers. You could say he had a **** budget here. Yet still stuck around. Celtic average around 10-15 Mill per season on players. Which would mean players like Schar. I can't see what top jobs would be in for him in the summer, especially when the likes of Farke, Hassenhutl, Marco Rose etc are becoming the next crop of elite managers. He's got a lot of competition now.
