For argument's sake, which players actually were good enough to stay in the Championship? Only asking because of the players we shifted, only 1 got a championship club and that was only because he'd done well for them previously. We didn't have any championship clubs wanting to take our players in the summer either (that we know of). All the interest came from abroad
I certainly wouldn't say they downed tools, they were just garbage and extremely weak mentally. It sounded like we had a few bad apples in the dressing room too, i.e. Maddison.
I suspect they all wanted £10k+ p/wk but found that those contracts weren't there for players like them. Maddison was another now trying to ply his trade in L1.
Self preservation and lack of respect for both themselves and the club id say is a major factor. There was some very influential players in that group last season that created a lot of divisions. Those players are now gone and look at the squad Harmony that exists and how close that squad is.... Yes grant as manager has to take his proportion of the blame, but he was thrown under the bus and let down massively by certain members of the squad that are no longer with us.
I'm sure that was true to begin with but take Stewart, do you take £2k a week at a Champ club or that at Blackpool? The fact he's at an average L1 side screams there were no takers for him.
Certain players definitely did down tools and I'm not just talking about the ones that refused to finish the season
Lopez for one, the players that didn't finish the season obviously and one other that we actively tried to move on over summer but couldn't and has actually really turned things around this season and is doing really well
I'm not going to name players that are still at the club, Jordi... From what I've been privy to, wasn't a bad egg and was well liked, he just let the transfer rumours turn his head and pretty .uch made it crystal clear he wanted to go the instant we want down
Definitely, but didn't make it formal untill after we went down, which pretty much just confirmed what everyone knew already
The more that comes out, the better the turnaround to this season looks. Fair play to everyone at the club. The squad assembled is outstanding especially considering the money it cost us.
It isn't like we were blessed with midfield options and he played at RB a fair bit after lockdown if I remember right and we had even fewer options there
It's a team game and Terry was lauding it in Jan when we were just outside the play off spots and all his comments were all about promotion being possible at the time. I accept we lost 2 of our best players in Jarrod and Turbo, but it all fell apart in almost every respect and Terry didn't have a single answer to reverse results. Lots of issues in the background but he accepted the gig and we are in a results based business. This season I for one wish him all the best in getting us back to were we where when he arrived.
