My bad. In that case it’s even worse. We needed that equaliser and the subs were not as good as Thiago and Firmino!!

What it also highlights is how poor at goal scoring our midfield is. If we are going to play 4-3-3 then Thiago and Fabinho would be first 2 out of the 3. We still need a goal scoring midfielder to complement them.

Did anyone see Thiago’s attempt to recover when Pogba took it off him? He was absolutely knackered, had to come off

Yep, he almost stopped and then realised where he was and dug in. He was running like he was towing a caravan.

Last season he was playing for Kidderminster. Wouldn’t be close to first team if it weren’t for injuries so can’t blame the kid. He played really well in first few games he played but consistency is always going to be issue. Problem is you can understand a centre forward skinning him, but just missing the ball right at you is Sunday league stuff which is annoying.

That still doesn’t excuse the fact that we’re in need of a central defender and we didn’t have one lined up at the open of this transfer window and it’s obvious we won’t be getting one.

Why was it obvious? Was the quiet deal to get Jota obvious?

Listen, I christened him Virgil Van Williams as an affectation, and I still say he hasn't missed one header (and he was left on his own to face Rashford for most of the game as Trent was playing right-wing, Salah can't tackle and gives up the moment anyone goes past him, despite being one of the quickest footballers on the planet), but let's get real - he has zero pace and mediocre control. We knew Joe at that age would probably come good because, although not as good as Williams in the air, he did have pace and exquisite control. Williams should be on the fringe of the squad playing dead -rubbers in the CL and early round cup ties of the LC against lower division sides. He's only playing in an FA Cup tie against one of our biggest rivals in late January because our parsimonious owners, who had three months to prepare, would not buy a CB because the club lost money in the pandemic, just like everybody else. End of.

About time everyone stopped gushing at just what wonderful owners they've been just because they're not as bad as H&G: that's a ****ing low bar fellers.

The pundits made a song and dance about Hendo not being there to cover Trent, but that's one of Fab's prime roles in his proper position. But because Fab played a blinder at Chelsea alongside VVD and against Werner, who we now know ain't that special anyway, FSG creamed themselves and thought they had no need to but a fourth CB after letting Lovren go.

Okay, even though most fans thought that crazy, there was an argument then after the club losing money, etc. But aftr VVD and Joe were ruled out for the season? Dunno about anyone else, but I thought we were just limping through to Jan when the cavalry would appear of at least one CB, there being no FFP this season to talk about and all that, and being top of the league on New Year's Day was well beyond my expectations in October. But they've missed the boat to save the title already imo, and if they want to save top four and a decent run in the CL they need to put their hands in their pockets. They won't though.

All that said, there's no excuse, except Jota's injury, for the form of the front three. They really will have to buy in the summer now and sell at least Bobby, if not Salah as well imo. I foresee a few seasons rebuilding, tbh, which after spending all these years getting back to top is a bitter blow.

Thought Allison had his worst game of the season for us s as well. But he has plenty of credit in the bank, so we'll let that go.

That was actually an exciting game and even though we lost, it gave me some optimism. We scored some goals, Salah all-round game wasn't great but he was clinical. We limited our crossing and actually played proper footy. No doubt we win that game if Matip was playing instead of Rhys.

I'm hoping this is a turning point now. Klopp took risks and decided not to defend and protect the right, but instead push up. And let's be honest - United's only tactic was to lump it long, or score from the FK.

Milner, bless him, he does try and to his credit, he gets into the box and tried to make things happen. Unfortunately, he's just too far off the pace and this should be his last season at the club. Gini on the other hand offers nothing. All the talk is that he offers stability and good positioning etc etc but the reality is, we need more. And I wouldn't be surprised if his head is already at Barca. Thiago is wasted at number 6. He should be our creative force and should be playing higher up the pitch. Not doing the donkey work. It would make sense to have Gini as the 6 and Thiago as the 8.

Another to notice is that Salah had the majority of our shots and Bobby only had 1. Over the past month, Bobby is the one who is having most of the shots which cannot happen.

Give Salah the ball in the box and let him take all the shots, and we will score.

Does anyone have a breakdown of goals scored by our midfield for this season so far and last?

just because we have had a great forward line the last few years doesn’t excuse the fact that our midfield has what I would regard a poor return for goalscoring

I’m not too bothered about yesterday’s result. All it showed us was that we need a fit CB or two. We looked much better going forward. It will take some time but we’ll get some balance back IF we don’t have to play Rhys Williams too often.

You do realise we spent money on Thiago and Jota in the summer and Klopp clewrly didn’t think we needed a CB in the summer with Gomez vvd Matip and Fabinho otherwise woukdnt had let Lovren go.
