Swansea City v Brentford Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Liberty Stadium Date - 27 January 2021 Kick off - 7pm Following their fine 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the fourth round of the FA Cup, next up for Steve Cooper’s men is a return to Championship action with a home match against fellow high fliers Brentford. Indeed, this will be a stern test of Cooper’s squad’s ability to nail down an automatic promotion slot as, arguably, Brentford - and not Norwich - are the best of the rest in the Championship. Add in the fact that Brentford beat the Swans in last season’s play-off semi-final, and not forgetting the arrogant remarks and attitude of Thomas Franks, their Manager, and this has the makings of a humdinger of a match .... On Saturday afternoon, the Swans secured the right to host Manchester City in an FA Cup fifth round tie with a 5-1 thrashing of Nottingham Forest. Liam Cullen and Matt Grimes each claimed two goals apiece and Ollie Cooper's fifth ensured Swansea reached the last 16 for the third time in four seasons. They will host Manchester City, who won 3-1 at Cheltenham Town, in February. Swansea's progress was rarely in doubt as they won the battle of two much-changed sides with ease. The following day, Brentford hosted Leicester in the fourth round of the FA Cup with Leicester marching into the FA Cup fifth round with a powerful second-half display to despatch the Bees and set up a tie with Brighton next month. Without the injured Jamie Vardy, the Foxes were trailing at the break to Mads Bech Sorensen’s seventh-minute opener. But Cengiz Under levelled within a minute of the restart before Youri Tielemans’ penalty put Leicester ahead five minutes later and James Maddison scored the third with 19 minutes remaining. The Swans have played the Bees on 89 previous occasions, winning 34, losing 32 and drawing the other 23 matches. In the corresponding fixture last season, Brentford ran out comfortable 3-0 winners - indeed, I thought that they were the best side that I saw at the Liberty in the 19/20 season - although the Swans won the Play Off first leg 1-0: Turning to Wednesday evening, I have a sneaky feeling that the Swans will avenge last season’s regular home match defeat, and will run out 2-1 victors
Draw not a bad result in the end As for Brentford - I'm going for a Swans victory as well but I'm going 3 - 1. Let's wipe that smug grin off the tit's face.
This is a nervous one for me. Can’t stand that prick of a manager, lots at stake with us pulling away or them catching us. But given our form strength in depth I’m going for a narrow 1-0 win.
Thanks for the positive preview Taff.......yes the Bees are apparently unbeaten in 16 league matches and records like that are there to be broken surely. We appear ourselves to be in some sort of confident form are playing at home on a perfect pitch and should win this game by 2 or 3 clear goals cementing us in second lace...
I have this horrible feeling that Frank (the Richard Head that he is) will conjure up a late goal and it will end 1-1. But to heck with that lets be positive and 2-0 to the Swans
Now that would show intent on our behalf.( remove the 1 goal to them though , that doesn't sit easy with me)
This is not the be all and end all game in my view not a must win but maybe a must not lose game. A point here still leaves us above them and so they have to do better than us against other sides. Still think Norwich are not the real deal and think they will slip up and not go up automatically. A point here and it is a tidy result.
