Marvin Rees spoke out after Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick wrote a strongly worded article in the Sunday Telegraph about a forthcoming new law to protect historic monuments from being removed “on a whim or at the behest of a baying mob”.

Mr Rees accused him of stirring up an “adversarial culture”, using unwelcome “social media language” and failing to accurately depict the situation in Bristol. “Colston Statue was pulled down in circumstances I could not endorse, but the way we have gone about discussing our history now is the way you would want."

So if it wasn't a mob what else should it be called? It was pulled down by a baying Mob of hundreds of extremists and the police allowed it to happen because of what the Mob would do.

Marvin Rees, the man who almost 2 years ago was urged by Bristol labour MP Thangham Debonaire to make a decision about Colston's statue and he did absolutely sweet FA about it as usual.

IT WAS A PREMEDITATED attack by persons who went solely hell bent on removing the statue [ saw a picture somewhere of a board placed there well before it was targeted saying "this statue must go" ]
Marvin knows that the black community will not vote for anyone other than black, so needs to keep them all on side. The people of Bristol in the coming elections should do as they should have last time and vote very few did. Bristol finances are getting beyond a joke, those areas that do not get help are paying for it. the council received £m's from the sale of the airport, it was supposed to wonders and keep our council tax down for years to come …. gone within a year or so and nothing to show … £m's spent on reversing previous projects like roads .. a metro system that helps less than 1000 people … and the mess that is now the pink elephant around Temple meads including the abandoned conference centre ..

Russia isn't communist any more JGF - not since Gorbachov presided over the breakup of the Soviet Union. That's why you find so many of them when you go on holiday in Spain, living in Puerto Banus and other playgrounds for the world's elite - and they aint poor!
Their regime certainly pushes the boundaries of what we know as 'democracy', but communist it aint - and there is a suburb of Moscow which is one of the most exclusive and expensive part of the WORLD to live - if I remember correctly it's all designed like a West London suburb - with red phone boxes an all!!!!

well it isn't democratic … you do as they say or else … there is a big divide,, go away from the main cities and poverty is rife [ life style just existing ] … they work for their existence or get nothing! the state supplies a roof and expect you to work … I had many radio friends when it was USSR, in all of the states, ... the world recognised [ never stopped recognising] every single state as independent states [ countries] … it had become a point of no return [ the situation ] when the USSR broke up … RUSSIA FIGHTING ON 10 + FRONTS WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN A GOOD RESULT … a friend of mine joined reuters after his army service … although would never give the real truth he was a spy against Russia [ not for us, as a member state of the old USSR ] cant say anymore other than he fled to UK days before the break up …. [ we only see a good picture, the truth is different ]

I expect the Baying Mob Society object to being called such a prejudiced or politically aggravated name and have formally complained ! :)

its well over 6 months since the pre meditated EC statue event, almost a year since the start of it all with the kneeling event on GF the hi jacking of BLM letter of support to form an extremist group, and the concept of footballers taking the knee[ an ungainly phraseology!].
I condemn the criminal act of property destruction, condemn the death of GF and hope the perpetrator gets an appropriate sentence, I pour scorn on the " EXTREMIST BLM faction" and whilst I supported the short action before KO for the first week continuing it beyond wore a bit thin it lost its real impact and meaning.
What I do find disturbing is the excessive use of BAME individuals in advertising... don't disagree with adverts or how presented but there does seem to be a rather wry use of those people … at least 4 -5 adverts, OK not many, but the main character seems to be making a fool of? as if the advertising agency is deliberately looking to make them look stupid!
We all in hindsight appreciate that what happened from 1500's to 1900's regarding slavery was wrong. When you read the history books [FRANCE SPAIN PORTUGAL and HOLLAND ] were far more involved, in numbers and time than Brittain [ around 50 -60 years ]. When SLJ did his series on Slavery, he highlighted aspects that put him where he is today a millionaire actor with a fantastic modern day life style …some of his "relatives" still live in wattle or tin rooved villages without mod cons in West Africa! the evolution of the human species … some evolve at a leisurely pace in a natural enviroment, others are transported to a different environment and develop at a different pace [ or form ]
this pandemic has shown the world in a different light, we should embrace "a new? beginning" a go forth with a determination deserving of the human race and our planet …….

I thought we had a BLM thread? not that it matters.... over the past 3 month's [ problem with an over active brain and attraction of numbers … lol] been doing a random survey on advertising and after 90 days got a conclusion. There is a bias against using white people in the 33 companies I followed. 2 main contenders [in my observations ] for the title are National lottery and Barclays. the figures I came out with [ from tv and computer ad's ] are 67% v 33%. there were 5 categories …. mixed people were 21% in another category … and well don't want to be impolite. Since GF incident there does seem to be an over reaction to promoting one section of all lives on this planet matter!!!!
Bristol city council still promote BLM …..

This political correctness issue has gone way too far and it's not just a load of nonsense but it's now becoming blatantly obvious in all sectors. Place names here in Canada have been changed back to the original first nations names and one example is the Queen Charlotte Islands are now Haida Gwai and I quite like that because it does reflect Canada's history. One change I did not like was the one in Banff where the name Chinamans Peak was removed and yet it was intended to honour the people of Chinese ancestry who were very instrumental in the building of the continental railway.

It is by its persistence becoming condescending to the impact of what was intended in the first couple of weeks, the relevance has been lost in a cloud of bandwagon jumping, the fact the EC statue was ripped down highlights even more the history of the black people into slavery lasted around 50 years where british were involved but close to 300years by Spanish and a couple hundreds by a few other western European coastal nations … THE Spanish, when you read the HISTORY BOOKS were amongst the most EVIL!
the world is slowly being held to ransom by the very few.
