If we do manage get promoted this season, I think with a load of players out of contract in June may be an advantage in a roundabout way. Johnson would know exactly who he would want to keep and surely we should have some pull to get new players in who would be decent enough to have us in the mid to top half of the Championship. We can but dream............
Tbf we have a much better squad than the one that Wycombe went up with and they were in a worse position than we were. It's not a dream imo, just needs everyone to work that bit harder and better.
Shouldn't all Sunderland fans? Didn't say it was a certainty but surely anyone who claims to be a fan wants the club to be as high up the League chain as it can be
This. We (rightly) sacked Parkinson for being **** but he left us two points outside the play off places (with a game in hand on some). Johnson needs time to get his ideas across, he needs support to bring a couple in that he thinks will help. I don't think it's unreasonable, however, to expect a new head coach to be able to slightly improve on the completely useless knacker before. We've got plenty of games, we'll hopefully have key players back for most of the second half of the season, we might get another couple in, we're hardly miles off the pace now, we already look good away from home. Absolutely need to sort the home form out, and I'm not confident we'll go up, but we should be capable of getting a play off place and I think we will. Got a perfectly good chance of going up as it stands and we can't afford to write this season off with the salary cap really hitting next season
Of course I want us to win games and get promoted... but I usually find its better in life not to be delusional or a fantasist
Even Tuesday night proved although we were **** we were still the better team, I wouldn't say there is any one stand out team in this league. Although LJ has taking over a shambles I really believe he only needs another couple of players that are right for his style we may be alright. It's the finest of margins that we aren't picking up 3 points even we aren't playing that well. May just be me being optimistic but I still think promotion is a possibility
If it’s all done but the announcement is being delayed, then it may be to do with managing expectations. As soon as it’s announced people will want a fortune spent on the squad. The rules around the salary cap mean that’s not easily achievable as we rely on players leaving before we can buy. Once the window shuts, everyone knows we can’t sign anyone so we’re stuck with what we have until the summer when something like 20 players are out of contract. This allows time to put structures in place and ensure recruitment is right so we have no excuses once next season starts. IMHO of course
I think if you look at the appointments off the pitch, all parties are certainly confident. Fingers crossed we hear more by the weekend.
It is getting a little late to bring strikers/players in (and lose a couple of so called strikers)... if we do this and start scoring goals and winning at home... I may well flip into i think we could get into play-offs/promoted.
I still think we have time. Additionally, it's clear that the plan is longer term and not all resting on instant promotion. Wisest move would be to wait until the last few days of the window and see what pops up. Importantly, go all out planning for the summer. Start to get the building blocks in place
Wonder if KLD doesn't want to be associated with another failed promotion campaign, & will wait for the seasons end to announce his involvement. Then he'll be involved with clearing out the deadwood and credited with financing a new and hopefully better team.
