So with a week to go before the market opens, finances permitting who would you like? i think defensively we are Ok with Ricardo and Cags to come back. I do like the thought of us signing Jesse Lingard. Im a huge Harvey Barnes fan but i think there is an opportunity for JL to take a place of him or Perez's spot. Thoughts?

I don't think Jesse Lingard would necessarily bring much to the team, I feel we'd be doing Man Utd a favour freeing up a space in their squad and wages for them to strengthen. Perez moving centrally recently has shown he has something to offer played in his best position, that gives us Under, Barnes and Albrighton as natural wingers, assuming Gray leaves, so a natural right winger would be my preference. A successor for Vardy is something most of us are probably wondering about, but while he's showing the form he's in, and with Iheanacho as cover, I don't think many people, who are genuinely any good, would be prepared to come and play second fiddle.

Striker, unlikely big names out of favour would be Jovic or Milik but unlikely. Edouard but would he replicate his form in Scotland down here or local midlands lad smashing it in the championship Toney but Brentford going for promotion again would not sell cheaply...
Would not want Lingard! Another attacking player would not go amiss though.

    roy race

Over his 55-year career, he won the league 10 times, the FA Cup 10 times, European Cup three times, Cup Winners Cup four times, UEFA Cup strangely only once, and the World Club Championships twice.

He even managed England. He scored 436 goals for Melchester and is the record goal scorer in English football.

    the stats don't lie <laugh>

I think we are pretty much sorted but still haven’t fully sorted the attacking right position... hopefully Under will grow into it but Thauvin is linked and out of contract in the summer - a cut price deal for him would really top us off I think

Barnes still has plenty of untapped potential and his pace makes him very dangerous (and sought after) he's a real handful for defences when he's on his game, as Citeh found out ... Lingard is very average by United standards and I can see him going somewhere like Newcastle or possibly Palace ...

We need another clinical finisher ... but established ones don't come cheap . .

I'd say Harvey Barnes today showed why Lingard would not be a viable threat to his first team slot ...

Lingard is not fit to clean Harvey’s boots....
All he would be good for potentially is what the Americans call a ‘bus boy’ in the canteen!

Expecting this to be the case. Outgoings are probably a priority. The permanent deal for Slimani a good start to free up funds. A few new rumours regarding Gray today but unfortunately still no departure.

This transfer window James, Benkovic and Iverson have gone on loan, and Slimani on a free to Lyon.

Oh I didn’t realise that! So much for that one game Slimani played all season and we thought we might be the saviour haha

Unfortunately Slimani has to be one of the worst blemishes on our otherwise outstanding list of transfers in over the last 6 or 7 years. Was it 31 million quid? Iheanacho will be up there if we don't get rid soon. I don't think he is a natural out and out striker and doesn't suit our style of play. It just goes to show how difficult it is to get a top striker in with the sort of money we can afford to pay. Wonder if Villa could be persuaded to do a swap with Ollie Watkins.

It’s so difficult as whoever we sign was never going to play because of Vardy so will always look a flop. Going back to when we won the league, I always felt that Deeney was the one we really wanted who could have either supported behind Vardy or up top on his own when needed

Yeah, always liked Deeney. I'd still love to get Zaha, too - can still run around all day and be a real pest like Shinji used to, but knows where the net is (well, seems to have a better idea than Shinji did, anyway <laugh>)
But.. 28yo. Just signed a 3yr contract. 50m+, so no, not really.

Yeah wouldn’t go near Deeney now we’re better than that but at the time it seemed like the right player we’d been missing who could do both roles

It's a striker who understands movement (and can execute it) that we need. None of the top teams have that big lumbering centre forward who totally relies on high balls. Not sure what is on offer in the lower leagues or in our academy.

I'd love us to go in for Zaha too - exactly what we need (right winger, scores goals). Albrighton can't go on for ever! Same is true for Vardy, but who we get to replace (?) him I have no clue
