Latest restrictions just announced here. Government worried about the spread of the variants Anglais and South Africa and now the latest one from Brazil. Despite the situation being fairly stable currently and some areas not under a great deal of pressure, they are trying to stamp down on it further. The 6.00 pm curfew that has been imposed in the east is being extended to the whole country for a minimum of 15 days from Saturday. It has been shown that the spread has slowed there when compared to the regions close by without the earlier curfew. Despite being in one of the areas that has small rates of infection, I am quite happy to close the shutters at 6.00 pm.

Am starting to have serious doubts about the Pfizer vaccine.:(

"the lingering suspicion will exist that the numbers publicized by the pharmaceutical companies ... more accurately reflect what was needed to achieve the Emergency Use Authorizations rather than their actual efficacy."

"For the Tamflu vaccine in 2009, Roche took 4 years to release the full clinical data. An impartial peer review revealed the drug had no apparent benefit for the flu strain concerned. This after over $3 Billion in sales."

Although all information and data is worth looking at, I am not sure about this individual, Mick Leucasch, as looking at his postings he is a committed anti-lockdown enthusiast. The big pharmaceutical companies are certainly out to find products that will maximise their profits, but do have to get approval from independent regulators. My feeling is that after getting some vaccines approved in the past, which is mainly done by examining the company's own data, and then it is shown later to be of minimal use, the regulators will be far more searching now. Against that of course is the political pressure that was heaped on companies and regulators to get something in use. What does concern me is the mixing of two different vaccines to give first and second doses. I am not sure that enough research has gone into this.

From what I hear the vaccines seems to be a post code lottery .

Some have had 2 but others of the same age none.

From talking to people who have had 1 jab, the 2nd WILL be the same vaccine. As regards the efficacy and Big Pharma's lack of trustworthiness (articles above) I suspect in this case there has been far too much publicity for dodgy statistics to be used. Whatever, the vaccines appear to workon some people - that's better than no vaccine, which can be confidently predicted to work on nobody.

I think you are right. Scotland made public what vaccines it had available, which days it didn't expect to receive supplies, and was told to take the information down by the Westminster government. Keeping people in the dark seems to be quite deliberate.

The big surprise is that the SG complied. Probably under threat of being denied supplies.

This isn’t coronavirus-related, but this thread seemed the most suitable I could find to share something I didn’t know about the people who run our country.

It’s dear old Tony Benn’s comments that really resonated.

Well the thread title does include the words 'nothing about football', so anything non-football related goes... <whistle>

As it emerges that by the governments own admission as the country is about to enter the eye of the storm over hospital admissions, Hancock cancels the contract with the private hospitals that provided 8,000 beds along with doctors and nurses. One can only ask why.

While it is good news that the vaccination program is working, it is a worry to see Raab talking about getting back to something nearer normality by March. In Australia they are saying that no one knows if a vaccinated person will still be able to pass the virus on, so do not expect travel restrictions to be lifted in 2021. Compared to Oz the UK record on dealing with this disaster has been dreadful, so I don't think Raab gets my vote on clarity.

The NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian has caused a bit of rumpus overnight by announcing that she intends to introduce samctions on those people who refuse to be vaccinated - such as no entry to sporting venues, museums, cinemas etc. Plenty are objecting to that, citing the deaths caused in Norway by the vaccination. Personally, I'm still torn over whether or not to have the vaccination when offered, there being too many conflicting opinions from experts about its efficacy - but I do tend to agree with her (shock horror - she's an Australian Tory!). She and other State premiers there have made the tough decisions with the interests of the population in mind, and those decisions have proven to be correct - which is not something the mob in Westminster can lay claim to.
