ive just remembered another workmate went inside would you believe for trashing his ex girlfriends garden in anger he was dreading it but like you say made some good friends who he kept in touch with. he acts the cool hard man all the time and the hardest part for him was when they discussed what they were all in for and amongst tales of murder gbh (or whatever its called nowaday) robbery fraud etc he had to admit to smashing up garden gnomes
I know a few that have been inside. Most don't see prison in itself as a deterrent, it's just sometimes an inconvenience if they had other things planned. Some have even deliberately breached their parole to get sent back in to catch up with their mates and have a bit of a rest. I think a lot depends on how they see their future. If they can find a reasonable job, even with a record, they tend to go straight, but the record often limits the options, so going back to prison is just 'one of those things' to them. It seems to be more of a deterrent to those that haven't experienced it, than it is to those that have.
I sat next to a Full Sutton screw in E5 for five years. Nice guy. Though, he never talked about his job. I wonder why!
its funny cos i used to sit next to a couple of screws in E6 and no im not gonna say phillips .... Hull nick. and that wasnt his name either
" Your Honour, yes my client is a perverted ****, who ****s in the street, steals women's knickers & dildos, peers through windows, trawls the streets at night for vulnerable girls, but..."
Talk about having to defend him. His barrister, already morally bankrupt, must be despairing at the defence they are putting up.
