Very few players deserve to be classified as irreplaceable. Danny falls into that very select category; strikers of his ability are extremely rare, that's why rich clubs are prepared to pay through the nose. Selling him purely to reinvest the money would be quite possibly the worst bit of business since we sold Mane and Pelle, and "reinvested" in Clasie and Charlie Austin. Different if he wants to leave, of course.
If he says he is definitely off, then we have to sell to reinvest. I get eat impression Danny is the kind of guy who won't mess us around, he'll say yep I'll sign and stay, or nope I'm leaving whatever. In the latter case, we will have to maximise what we get.
Someone on here must be from Hamble and(or) know someone in his family that could find out. Guessing they wouldn’t say anything anyway
How much do you think we could get? My guess is £45m ish. Do I think he will go? Unfortunately yes to Leicester or spurs in the summer.
I can't see him going to Spurs because the fee will be so high. Not necessarily so high as in over £50m, but still a hell of a lot when you consider his injuries, he'd likely be back up and he's 29 next summer. Spurs could sign Vinicius permanently for less than Ings - who's done okay as backup and has potential - and use funds for other areas. I could see Leicester or Everton wanting him, but they're hardly a dream move. I just don't see the 'big 6' going for him considering how much they'd have to pay for an almost 30 year old with a bad injury record. It's a risky buy for them.
I’m starting to think he will be off, so will be over the moon if I I come here and see he’s signed. I wonder if it is Europe he’s wanting, hence the delay. Anyway, in his hands now I guess, including the possibility of Europe!
As much as I love the bloke, I can’t see anyone paying over £30M for him especially in this climate. He’ll be virtually 30yo & has a slightly suspect knee(s). Must admit I struggled writing that & will probably get hammered for even suggesting but that’s the case. Don’t get me wrong, when Danny’s fit he probably covers most yardage certainly in quick bursts but I think any chairman would play serious hardball on his valuation. Not really sure why it’s taking so long tho. Maybe both sides have agreed a deal & just dragging it out for media coverage. Fingers x’d
Taking your last paragraph (I just don't see the 'big 6' going for him considering how much they'd have to pay for an almost 30 year old with a bad injury record. It's a risky buy for them.) that only leaves West Ham. If all clubs are struggling financially, the summer transfer market could be rather quiet, or more restrained than usual. Especially if there is a Covid hangover.
When there’s actually news that Danny is going to sign* can we make sure we have a new thread as this thread is misnamed and I know I’m not alone in being disappointed by its content whenever there’s a new post * or not, god forbid Thank you
