The Athletic: Danny Ings signs new long-term contract, but not for Southampton.

Ralph admitted that he was experimenting with the ultra high line against Spuds, shame it was against them because Son and Kane are deadly with space in behind.

 

Any news on this? We are performing well. He is scoring wonder goals. He loves the club and manager. We all love him. Am i missing something?

I get the feeling he isn't going to sign. He won't go out like VVD or Lallana etc, but will leave graciously when his contract is up.

We have been good for him, but he has also been good for us.

Just a gut, no facts or stories.

There was nothing about Bednarek or Armstrong before they signed. Ings is our key player therefore the stories were all going to be about him. It means nothing that it's all gone quiet.

 

If he doesn't sign I think he'll go this Summer rather than end of contract.

 

Stop bouncing this....gets me all excited. I don't know why since I am convinced that Danny won't be here for long.....unless he gets injured and is unsellable in the summer. Not that I wish that for him of course.

 

Well we cant sell him to any of our title rivals! Lol

Sadly, I agree with the last few posts. His time at SMS is very limited, but he'll leave us some great memories

Usually it's three different players. Maybe it's a sign

That he is committed to Saints in mind, body, and spirit? I like that thought

 

As much as I hope Ings signs a new contract I am beginning to think we are going to cash in on him in the summer. Especially with these reports of our dept and this line from the Toby Steele interview
“Come the summer, we hope we can generate some transfer funds and then reinvest them into the squad.“
Ings would get us a fair chunk of cash but would we find another quality striker?

 

I remember that some time ago Ralph made a veiled comment about releasing people who didn't commit....that could apply to Danny, but we might decide to keep him (regardless of losing money) should we get into Europe. The underlined bit is my thoughts not Ralph's.
