Good Morning. It's Tuesday 12th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Cooper's comeback delights Whelan

Leeds Soccer pundit Noel Whelan has been talking of his relief that club Captain Liam Cooper will be fit to start against South Cost outfit Brighton on Saturday.

“He’s one of those players who is a leader out there on the field and one of the players you get the most consistency out of

“So to see him back is massive news, especially when you’ve got Brighton and Southampton coming up and you need natural defenders and leaders out there in the Premier League games. “It will be nice to have him back and I’m guessing with Luke Ayling.

“I’m not sure how far Diego Llorente is off but he’s been training and wasn’t ready for yesterday’s game. He could be another player that could be included in the squad for the Brighton match giving him another week of fitness and making sure he’s 100 per cent right for the game.”

Leeds v Saints match to be called off

Next Wednesdays fixture between Leeds v Southampton is due to be called off, but only because of Shrewsbury Town.

The Shrews have seen a Covid-19 outbreak decimate their squad, and they had to postpone their Cup game against the Saints.

The league 1 team risk being thrown out of the cup for not being able to field a team, therefor talks are underway to postpone the Leeds game in order that Southampton can fulfil their cup game.

Llorente being dropped for U23 game, no cause for concern

Despite previous indications that Llorente needs under-23s matches to build himself up, Bielsa decided (after the Crawley game) it was more important having the Spanish International train with the rest of the first team.

The 27yo has only one league appearance under his belt for the Whites. He first picked up a muscle injury back in September whilst on International duty with Spain before even kicking a ball for Leeds. He sustained a brand new muscle injury during his long awaited debut game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in early December.

It was during this game that Koch sustained the knee injury that led him going under the surgeons knife, keeping the German International sidelined until March. though Llorente was not 100 percent fit, Bielsa decided to risk the former Real Sociedad player for the remaining 85 minutes. Unfortunately a fresh injury was to keep him sidelined for a further month.

Brighton match should see Ayling, Llorente’, Cooper, Dallas as the back 4 and thank god for that. Phillips will be missing but should be Struijk or Llorente taking the DM and either Struik or Llorente with Cooper. Lorente was supposed to play yesterday but after Crawley Bielsa changed his mind. Hes fit so needed.

Full team out and full steam ahead now except for Phillips for one match, but we should see some massive improvement

I hope you're right Doc, but I wouldn't be surprised if he brings Llorente on off the bench like against Chelsea. I think that would almost certainly happen if we had a full squad but our lack of CBs and now DMs might force Bielsa's hand and hopefully we'll see the back four you mentioned.

As for the Southampton game being rearranged, let's hope they use their common sense and come up with a reasonable date. Most likely though they'll decide in their infinite wisdom to make us play on a Thursday tea time. :emoticon-0114-dull:

After another poor performance by Struijk at DM, most likely see, Dallas moved there and Alio will keep the LB position.

Exactly where Sundays problem started. Why would you play Struijk as DM when Phillips is playing? Why would you have Phillips as a CB when you have Struijk who has experience of partnering Cooper at CB. Having them in their correct roles would probably have solved most of it

Sol Bamba has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy.

I'm sure we all wish him well.

    Morning all,
Exactly what I think. I had mates of mine who don't have Sky who were looking forward to watching us play.
We were so bad they didn't even take the piss.
I bet we've lost thousands of young kids who might have chosen Leeds as their team after that debacle.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that we would be offloading at least 3 players in January. Grot, Nessy and Bhoy, but this is how these things work out:
    • Grot training with AD Den Haag
    • AD want to sign him but can’t as Leeds own him
    • Grot wants to sign but can’t until Leeds agree.
    • Grot and any other player expects Leeds to pay them up to the end of their contract which is June 30th
    • So expect 6 months pay and to get paid by their new club, players want everything.
    • So we have the same for Bhoy who has never played for the club and been paid for 3.5 years so far and wants another 6 month
    • These players should accept that they can start work elsewhere NOW and shouldn't expect payment to leave. If they wont accept it, I would just leave them to fester and hope the clubs who would sign them now dont want to in 6 months

Agree, his best moment had to be when Redders number 2 Steve Thompson was suspended by the club and Bamba overheard Bellusci laugh about it, went crazy as chased Bellusci all over Thorp arch wanted to kick the crap out of the Italian....

Was he poor? I thought he moved the ball about OK and had a nuisance value in breaking up Crawley attacks by winning the first long ball or by challenging the second ball. After he was removed at half time, Crawley battered their way through the middle.

The biggest limitation for Struijk in that position is his lack of pace and it takes him 10 minutes to turn around. He is no Phillips but not many are....

Bielsa will go with Cooper and Ayling at CB with Dallas at RB and Alioski at LB. Struijk will start at DM in place of Phillips. Llorente will be on the bench.

I think he started ok but was left wanting a few times as the half went on. Thought there may have been swapped with Phillip's second half,

We would have been better starting with Casey and Struijk as CBs because they are used to playing with each other. Cooper on the bench and Phillips in usual role. But because Bielsa wanted to use Struijk as DM we had no CB partnership and ghat led to no midfield control. It was terrible

It was a poor performance all round its pointless blaming individuals. Put it behind us and make Brighton pay.
