If anyone is struggling to find a purpose in life in these terrible times, have some sympathy for The Distillers Company, who have invented the world’s most pointless drink:
Imagine if you bought that by mistake....as I did when I bought vegan cottage pie Made with actual cottages.
What I really don't understand about this whole vegan thing is why on earth do they want to replicate things they hate, like sausages, burgers, chicken nuggets etc? If vegan is so great then just tell it how it is and invent new descriptions for the meat free food stuff. What is wrong with 'Mashed and Minced Shrub Tubes' - 'Ground and Flattened Minced Vegetable Matter' - 'Pulverised and Shaped Fungus Balls' ? Seems logical to me and at least the vegan stuff then puts down a marker as unique and quite separate from normal food. Works for me.
Well it's not necessarily things that they hate. There are multiple different reasons that people are vegan. I know an environmental vegan and one that just loves animals too much to want to eat them. Neither of them hated meat, but chose for different reasons not to eat it. Therefore it makes perfect sense to create vegan versions of dishes they liked. Peoples hatred of vegans I find more strange tbh.
Why is it a vegan has to tell everyone they are a vegan? Why can’t they just enjoy their life choice and not feel the need to share. I eat meat but I don’t need to advertise the fact when first meeting someone.
Some of the vegan foods are actually quite nice once in a blue. But am I ever gonna stop eating meat, not a chance.
It’s also strange how whenever I’ve been at a buffet meal (those were the days), the vegetarian/vegan options ALWAYS run out first. And you’re right, I don’t hate the taste of meat but farming animals and killing them to eat makes absolutely no sense any more. We could feed the world with no problem, as well as save the rain forests and halt climate change if people would just eat less meat. You don’t even need to give it up, just treat it as a luxury food.
Vast majority don't go around telling everyone. But like with anything, there are always loud and extreme ones. Also if you are a vegan for environmental reasons than the more people you can encourage to join in the better. So it makes sense to talk about it.
I admire some vegans for taking a stance which I don’t think I could personally. I eat fish and dairy products, but I do check out the sourcing. We keep ducks in the garden, who have a fabulous life and reward us with delicious eggs (and great manure for the raised beds). On the other hand the vegan zealots who would classify this as slavery of sentient beings, just as they do keeping bees for honey, just piss me off.
