Interesting read on city's final position on current stats- Bristol City on course for lower league finish than last season according to data experts Robins' final Championship position for 2020/21 is set to be in the bottom half according to renowned US website. Bristol City's final resting position for this campaign could get a lot lower than the team is currently in. According to highly acclaimed data scientists FiveThirtyEight.com - a leading predictive website based in the US - the Robins are on course to finish the campaign in the lower half of the Championship. City dropped down to 10th position in the English second tier following the 2-1 loss to Luton Town on Tuesday and are currently predicted to finish in a lowly 14th for the 2020/21 season. Teams are analysed by fixtures played so far, previous results, Expected Goals for and against and many other metrics. The website explains that 'The forecasts are based on a substantially revised version of ESPN’s Soccer Power Index (SPI), a rating system originally devised by FiveThirtyEight editor-in-chief Nate Silver in 2009 for rating international soccer teams.' Matches are then simulated with an additional random factor to account for genuine events before seasons are simulated some 20,000 times, with an eventual average taken for final league position. Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff and Preston are all tipped to finish above City this season. Meanwhile, Brentford - currently on a 16-match unbeaten run - are tipped to win the league. The Bees moved up to second in the Championship on Wednesday night after a 2-1 win over promotion rivals Bournemouth. And Thomas Frank's high flying side host Dean Holden's side in London next, with the team from the capital able to take over from Norwich City at the summit if results go their way. The Canaries are tipped to finish third this campaign, with the Cherries eventually stealing the second automatic play-off spot, if the US predicted Championship table is to be believed. Bristol City will hope that their results and performances improve when some of their 11 injured players eventually return to the pitch.
Lee Johnson's first season ~ 'Cotts replaced by Lee Johnson in February, following a brief spell with John Pemberton in temporary charge. A strong second half of the season saw City finish 18th in the table' Let's judge Holden with same timings, he has had Covid 19 and horrendous injuries to deal with, anything better than 10th is an improvement, he is still vunerable and only on a 12 month contract.
No excuses, Covid & injuries has affected teams across the Country. We changed coach to improve & progress.
I seriously want Holden to deliver and be successful, but as things stand I just have this nagging feeling of deja vu and seen it all before, as the season unfolds.
I would like Holden to deliver the goods, he wasn't my first choice but I want him to succeed, I'd always had enough of Junior who tried, cryed and lied but if Holden can't crack it, it's the golden boot for him and we start again. Surely Mark Ashton has to be looked at, a lot of the failure must be down to his involvement.
Agree Wiz. But he's probably in a safer position than any player, coach, manager or member of staff. CEO's just don't get sacked
Control has to be a huge issue at Bristol City and until those who want control ,or those who have already it, take a long hard look in the mirror and realize that they are a part of the problem we have absolutely no chance of improving. Things go on in the dark recesses of which we will never have any knowledge and so to hell with the commitment of several years back to be more informative with the supporters. I have serious doubts about Ashton and how deep his hand is in the pockets of Steve Lansdown and I believe he is the type of person to never hire a manager who has more clout than him because it may highlight his personal deficiencies. All of the people who make the major decisions on behalf of City need to wake up and smell the roses because it's the only way the stench of incompetency will leave the building. As supporters we have had to put up with this dross for too many years so why on earth can't the powers to be recognize this situation, and heaven forbid actually do something to address the problem? Get your proverbial heads out of your backsides and listen to the vibes from the street and be aware that many are fed up with your acceptance of the same boring status quo and would ask that you get together and sort out the mess that you alone, based on your policies, have created. My true New Years wish is for Ashton and his nodding dogs to find other employment and Lansdown to wake up and do something right for a change. Happy New Year to you all from Canada.
Think it fair to judge Holden if receives the same backing as our previous incumbent. Very unlikely anyone will spend money buying the current family jewels so with Covid Holden's stuffed. Ashton & co sold the 'silver' and just look at the pathetic squad Holden has inherited. Bentley - just about, Kalas, Wells - if he gets service, Nagy, and now I'm struggling to think of any other player worth a definite starting place from the squad Holden inherited. Holden has performed miracles so far, but there's only one direction we're heading - south.
And you say I'm daft as a brush Deano knew the score when taking the job, knew the setup, knew the Squad he was inheriting, knew about Covid, knew there would be injuries, knows how the club operates, knows SL, knows Ashton and how he operates.. TBF not many newly appointed coaches has that advantage...................................Miracles??? wouldn't go that far!
He did well at beginning of the season, maybe for the reasons you pointed out, but he’s not doing so well lately and seems to out of ideas on how to stop the rot. He’s been unlucky with injuries I accept but he needs to turn things around soon IMO
So he knew the squad was poor. He requested players and was given 2 crocks who haven't played yet. 2 loans who played a few games between them and now crocked. A free from Derby and the crock Brunt. Holden has performed miracles with the chalice given him. Accepting it doesn't diminish his efforts. You are daft Captain - and if the cap fits.
If DH felt the squad was as poor as you say Redprintt, then he is part of the problem. He was No2 to LJ for 4 years, so don’t tell me him and LJ didn’t discuss these signings! What we don’t know is, did he agree with them all, or voice his reticence and get ignored?
Awww and had that been LJ, you would still think it was performing miracles.....Give it a rest Dolly!!
I hope we finish in top 12, it is a very difficult season to be in especially with so many injuries. The team cannot get settled and you cannot put the blame on anyone.
