I thought the Saints' game was a bit of "welcome to the Premier League" for him. He wasn't given any time on the ball to pick out a searching pass and seemed a bit taken aback. However, I do think he has the quality to adapt to this, and as long as he stays fit we should see some really good stuff from him.
To be fair, it was Thiago’s first start in around 10 weeks and Soton are one of the most intense teams in the league. Even then, he was still the best of a bad bunch. We can’t compare Shaq and Thiago as they play different positions. Both are creative in their own right. Thiago will never get the goals or assists stats because he plays deeper however he is crucial to our build up play. You only have to look at the Salah goal to see what he brings - he plays it into Shaq. Guaranteed that 90% of our current midfielders would have played it out wide to Neco instead.
I still see Shaq more of a 'bring him on late' kind of player than a starter. He does well coming on when legs are tired and the game's not so intense. I think we'd have very little control or defensive structure with him on - especially in the first half.
The nice thing now is klopp will get to see which round he needs to throw as the draw for both 4th and 5th round is being made Monday. 7:10pm start 7:23pm is 5th round.
Yeah - no point in going for it unless we actually go for it. Pointless building up fixtures just to throw it in the quarters.
At the moment, we have little control or structure without him. Our whole system is compromised due to the injuries.
