When I said 7th ( and got shot down in flames ) I was taking into consideration the way we've been playing. Have you seen any team playing better football than us? Every player seems up for it and as a team we're playing better than anybody.

Of course I may be a bit prejudiced but not much and I'm trying not to let my heart overrule my head.

If we continue to play as we are, top 8, absolutely; especially if we see investment in the January window. Having said that, if we do face injuries, and too many players leave for the ACN, I'd be understanding of a lower finish.

I don't agree with the top four any more, it's a top 3 of city, manu and chelsea. that's your title challengers now, Spurs I think we'll take 4th. Liverpool aren't good enough (yet?) Arsenal have been shocking so far, but I can see them getting a europa league spot. If our season keeps going the way it is, we could be fighting with those two and Villa for 5th - 8th. But I supsect there'll be more than just the four of us knocking around come May.

Top 8 would make for a joyous season - top 6 would be remarkable but not impossible.....just don't think we have the depth to sustain our fantastic start - the run of Manu/Manc/Chelsea games will see how strong our squad is. Victory over the spuds will be a real springboard for us.

I put bottom half. But for a reason. I would accept bottom half and a trip to Wembley.

Bottom half would be 13th to 11th though. Any lower and it would be extremely disappointing giving out start

Anywhere in the top ten would be really great and an improvement from last season. This hopefully will lead to more strengthening of the squad with Ashley realising how good a job Pards and Carver and the rest of the back room staff are doing. Keep up the good work lads.

For me I would like to see us push on from last season so somewhere in the top 10 would see us progressing. As said we will get a better picture of where the team and league is at by the begining of december when we have played the big 3.

Where we finish in the top 10 depends on how/if the squad is strengthened in Jan with a couple of good reinforcements and cover for the player leaving for the ACON we could well be pushing for the european spots.

Any lower than 17th and I wouldn't be very happy.

I really dont understand people saying theyd settle for the bottom half of the table.

I'd only settle for progress on last season. We have a better team and squad than last season, and results so far show already show a HUGE turn around on the same games last season, plus certain teams that usually finish above, such as Everton have weakened.

I have upped my expectations from 11th-15th to 9th-13th. But in reality as long as we survive I'm happy. Of course I expect more than 17th but I don't believe in getting carried away after 7 games when the toughest part of the English PL calendar is yet to be played (Christmas Period). I'm hopeful and if as I expect we finish 9th or 10th then I'll be over the moon. But happy? Just in the league will do.

People say Nov and Dec are hell, but we have Everton (h), Norwch (a), Swansea (h) and West Brom (h) - four decent fixture. We also have Man U (a), Man C (a), Chelsea (h) and Liverpool (a) - four of our toughest games. So it's pretty evenly spread, 4 winnable / drawable fixtures will keep us plodding along regardless of what happens in the four tough fixtures.

Then in the new year we have Man U (h) followed by QPR (h), Fulham (a), Blackburn (a) and Villa (h) - again one or two toughies but some winnable games.

We have a good chance of picking up pretty consisten points each month.

I'd happily take 8th and think that is a realistic aim. Anywhere in the top 10 beats last seasons position.

I think the spread is ok and makes a mockery of the "easy run" and "lucky" jibes! Doesn't really matter who you play to a certain extent in Dec though, it just tests the strength of your squad and obviously its a difficult time for foreign lads. Not just because they're pussies either, but because their bodies are used to having a break around this time. It is a real hard slog and I think we'll learn a lot about our new team in this period. Its an unknown and its impossible for anyone to say which way it will go. For all we know they might relish it, even though this would not be the typical reaction.

Quite exciting to be a Newcastle fan I suppose, nobody knows how good we are or what the season holds!

Realistically I believe we can finish anywhere between 7th and 10th, however, I selected bottom half of league in this poll because I would not be mammothly disappointed if we finished 11th or 12th. Anything below 12th would be a disappointment, but unless we end up in a right relegation scrap I'm not going to complain - we all know how close the table was last year and one win could be the difference between 8th and 13th at some stages.

For me, the main thing at the moment is to establish ourselves as a strong mid to upper table side, solidify ourselves at that for a couple of seasons and gradually push on. If by some miracle we finished 6th/7th this year I'd obviously be delighted, but I'd be concerned that it just isn't sustainable at the stage we're at now and I'd worry about expectations going forward.

Top 10 and missionary due to increased age and reduced flexability.
