    Stevenage v Swansea City

Competition - FA Cup, Round Three
    Venue - The Lamex Stadium
    Date - 9 January 2021
    Kick off - 15:00

Following their deserved 2-1 home victory over Championship promotion rivals Watford, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is an away match against Stevenage in the FA Cup.

Last Saturday, Jamal Lowe struck twice as the Swans started 2021 with a bang by coming from behind to beat Watford at the Liberty Stadium.

Tom Cleverley fired the visitors into the lead in the first half before Lowe levelled with a stunning curled strike just before the break.

The summer capture then notched his eighth goal of the campaign midway through the second half to earn his side all three points as the Swans moved back into the Championship's automatic promotion places after another impressive display on their new pitch.

On the same day, Charlie Carter scored twice as Stevenage recorded back-to-back wins by coming from behind to defeat Scunthorpe 3-1 and haul themselves out of the League Two relegation zone.

Struggling Boro will be hoping this will be a sign of things to come in 2021, having only won two of their last 21 games, in all competitions, to end the previous year.

The visitors led after just five minutes when Abo Eisa's cross was met by Dev Green and Stevenage keeper Jamie Cumming could not prevent his effort from crossing the line.

However the home side responded excellently, and levelled after 11 minutes when a well-worked move ended with Ben Coker's cross being nodded in by Carter from close range.

And, the turnaround was completed before a quarter of the game had been played when Carter picked up a loose ball before curling in a superb effort from the edge of the area.

After that frenetic opening, Stevenage held Scunthorpe at bay before finally sealing the points in stoppage time, as substitute Aramide Oteh found the top corner after a solo run.

The teams have net only 3 times previously - all in different cup competitions - with Swansea winning just once and Stevenage twice.

The last meeting was at Stevenage in an Football League Cup match in August 2018 when the Swans lost 5-0 - however, it should be noted that in line with Premier League and League Championship clubs being allowed to enter the competition, the Swans had to select at least six players in their starting line-up who were aged under 21 on 30 June 2018 and include only two players aged over 21, who have made forty or more senior appearances, as at 30 June 2018.

Turning to Saturday, I would not be surprised to see Cooper make wholesale changes to the starting line-up: in so doing, that brings the attendant risk of a ‘Cup Upset’.

Nevertheless, with promotion the principal objective, I expect Cooper to ring the changes - but I would still expect the team selected to win: 2-1 to the Swans <cheers>

Thanks Taff. Yes depends on our starting line up. For example he may well go with Cullen and Yan up front with Ayew and Lowe on the bench. 2-0 to the Swans for me

I'm worried we may well slip up here. I hope not as I'd like a good cup run.

Thanks Taff....went to Stevenage when we lost a midweek cup match and Flynn’s only had about 14 players to pick from due to injuries....obviously lost that game. We will get revenge on Saturday by at least two goals. Coops will probably play some of the reserve players and have a strong bench
