CNN is reporting that senior Republicans are considering voting for a second Trump impeachment hearing before the 20th of January. There is a growing movement to get Trump out of the White House before his term runs out. Mike Pence is also being asked to consider citing the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office on the grounds of being unfit to be the POTUS.
Nah, plenty of people who aren't blinded by their own bias call it as it is. Both sets of 'protestors' had folk who acted the twat, that's easy to work out by watching the footage.
But only one set broke into and damaged federal property, while the other one was met on the streets by police in riot gear and national guard troops. Only one said they had no intention of entering federal buildings - while the other group were incited and encouraged to do so . . . . In advance. Why and how the security was so unprepared is a mystery to me.
He can't. Only way around it would be to give the Vice President the gig and then get him to advance pardon Trump. Happened with Nixon and Ford.
BBC News - Trump riots: Could the president be removed from power? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55586677 Halfway down this article it mentions it, also says they are not sure if he can or can't
He can't. It's that simple. It's why Nixon went the route he did. Even the article has a line saying some legal experts said no but doesn't have a line saying some legal experts have said yes. Why do you think that is?
As I said previously, I have very little knowledge of how us politics work. I read it as he shouldn't be able to pardon himself but it's a bit of a grey area
Apparently he can pardon himself but that only is for Federal crimes.... at state level he doesn’t have immunity, that’s why he is S hitting Himself as New York prosecutors are waiting for him to leave office... they want a chat with him about his tax affairs
What others? Who are they? Have there been some amendments made to the constitution since Tricky Dicky was president when he couldn't do it? Genuinely interested to know why it was illegal for Nixon to do it but Trump can.
https://www.justice.gov/file/20856/download Presidential or Legislative Pardon of the President Under the fundamental rule that no one may be a judge in his own case, the President cannot pardon himself. This was from the NIxon era and Nixon didn't go against it and he was no shrinking violet. So while Trump may declare he is pardoning himself, there is no legal precendent for him to do so. There would be a massive kick back against him for going that route and it would inevitably end up in court to let a judge decide. If they said yes fine, you are then allowing the most powerful office in the USA to act with complete and utter impunity to the rule of law whereby they could perform any criminal activity they wanted and would never face any sort of prosecution. I live in a world where loads of folk think Trump is a total muppet then find they actually pay attention to him when he spouts ****e. Crazy times.
True, but that's comparing two Washington events. I'm just talking about protests/marches as a whole.
Trump tweeted that he's not going to the inauguration. Its his ball and he is taking it home with him
Didn't that happen last week ? There were two houses attacked though at that time the attacks had not been attributed to any particular group
