Delighted that the 'weak' team and worst subs bench we've ever had proved me wrong and pulled that performance out. We played Liverpool at the right time, but still needed a hell of an effort from those that were drafted in to come away with all 3 points. COYR
There were far too many positives from last night to list them all and posting anything after reading all the brilliant comments on here is a tough one, but..... I could not be more pleased and thrilled by one of the best Saints performances in recent years, and at home! My happiest things to take from last night are that Fraser Forster survived and even though he didn't have much to do, nothing went past him. That will have given him a huge boost in confidence and it bodes well for the rest of the season. Good on yer Fraser. Diallo looks like he will become some player and he certainly is composed on the ball and has great vision. Every single one of the team played just about the perfect game. The icing on the cake for me is our boss Ralph. The guy has been through the mill since he arrived here and last night was such a brilliant 'thank you' from a group of players who have responded to his coaching as individuals and collectively to up the quality and energy levels far beyond what many of us thought possible. Ralph clearly loves it here and to get results like this will mean more to him than anything. I honestly can't believe how lucky we are to be watching Saints developing the way we are and there are even better days ahead. Stay safe everyone.
I just loved seeing Tella, N’Lundulu and Valery leading the attacks against the league champions towards the end of the game as if they were playing against any old u23 team.
You can bet that if this was Klopp, the media (and the author) would be spunking themselves with utter excitement
Ings said Ralph is a passionate person...he isn't doing it for effect. Effect would be if he looked blase....like it was just another day at the office.
This result must surpass the "Everlasting Derby" oñe by the width of the universe! I'd be happy to.see the latter slip.down and off the first page as that is meaningless compared to this!
I`ve just finished reading `A Life Too Short`, a book about the German international keeper Robert Enke, who sadly stepped in front of a train in 2009. Footballers and managers are not immune from demons and despair - I can only imagine the stress Ralph is constantly under, and does well to hide most of the time. Last night was a release of some of it. I hope he never leaves.
Nice try Ides but it ain't gonna happen, at least until we the next time we play and humiliate them anyway...
Ings scored a unbelievable goal but the defence made sure we won the game. They were disciplined and putting their bodies on the line. Ralph's tears must have been of pride. Looking back at the game the only team that looked like scoring after Ings's goal was Saints. Even Jamie Carragher thought Saints were the better team, even said the stats were meaningless.
Managers are not actors FFS, they can't just summon up tears on tap. What we saw was real emotion and passion from a man who I believe has fallen in love with our club and is deeply invested into his mission here. As any woman will tell you it takes a real man who can show his true emotions.
Interesting you say that because Forster only had 1 easy save to make whereas Kelvin was on fire that day. So completely different games. On that day we were lucky really. Yesterday we were far more accomplished in defence and thoroughly deserved the win.
Ides, are you unwell? Beating Liverpool last night was a magnificent achievement but the reality is, it was just another match. OK it was against the current champions, but they are already fast becoming yesterday's news. It was perfect last night, especially with the youngsters coming on and playing so well and outstanding to see Ralph feel so much joy and passion for what is happening here. But it was just beating Liverpool. Handing out a thorough thrashing to Pompey is on an altogether different level. Portsmouth is a puss ridden cesspit full of weird humanoid creatures that emanate an appalling fish like odour and speak in an unintelligible language that only other swamp dwellers recognise. They taunt us, goad us and bait us. They punch police horses and grunt insults at our players. They really are the very dregs of humanity and have a completely ****ed up inbred DNA which has more in common with a silt gulping flat fish than a human being. Their players puff themselves up, run around and do a lot of arm waving, sighing and not much else. Then we take them apart and really take the piss by Cedric scoring with a toe poke, just to remind them of how **** they really are. No Ides, beating Pompey is way beyond anything we can do to inflict a beating to Liverpool.
